    Hi,
Fairly new to PremPro 2 – had 6.5 with Canopus Raptor RT and used to capture with their app. So now i’ve plugged in my DV camera (Canon MV10 for playback) Windows sees it and up it pops in My Computer. Pro doesn’t – Camera offline in settings window. Tried capturing with Win Movie Maker and i get 1 and a half minutes in and it freezes. If i stop and try again it says Camera not attached and the Camera has disappeared from My Computer. The only way to get it back is to reboot. Is this a Service pack 2 thing – had to switch off firewall to get even this far. I’ve switched off all non-essential services too. I’ve recently upgraded to AMD64 cpu, Asus A8V mobo, 2Gb RAM, 240Gb RAID5 array on Promise SX4000.
    Any ideas?

Did you get rid the Raptor card??? If not, that could be the cause of your problem(s).

    Hi,
yes the raptor card is gone and i’ve done a fresh install of XP and PPro. I tried loading my old 6.5 version and it doesn’t see the camera either. I’ve a printer and a Jog Shuttle in the USB ports on the pci card and they work okay. I’ve a Canopus ADVC 50 which i’ve tried unpluged for DV input but if i go through that it disappears after capture crash too.
    Thanks,
    Tim

There probably isn’t a problem with the software and operating system, the Canon MV10 camcorder is a PAL camcorder with DV out capability only, there probably isn’t any device control because of this as there isn’t any two communications, try selecting PAL – Canon – Standard in Device Control in Preferences or in the settins menu in the Capture window(F5), With the capture window(F5) selected, start playing the tape manually in the camcorder’s VCR mode and see if video appears in the Capture window, if so try a manual capture by hitting record while video is playing.

    Hi,
i’ve tried what you said with no joy. I did try with a Sony PDX10 but had the same problems so i’m not sure it’s just a device control issue. Interestingly if i take an analogue feed out of the camera into my ADVC 50 and do a manual capture it works (in Movie Maker – haven’t tried with PPro yet). Any other thoughts?
    Cheers,

You said you see the MV and PD in My Computer, is that under a heading of “Scanners and Cameras”?

What kind of firewire card? Have you tried to move the firewire card to another slot?

    Hi,
yes the cameras do appear under ‘Scanners and Cameras’. The card is a basic non-brand firewire / USB card. I was wrong about the analogue cature through the ADVC; it also hangs, just not as soon. I’m going to try a new firewire card / slot and then a re-instal of XP without SP2.

Trying a different slot may work, be aware that the interupt lines on the PCI cards are shared, avoid 1 & 5 as they are shared with the AGP card, slot 2 is used with the LAN, if not using a network, disable in the bios and try a firewire only card in the slot, slot 3 is used also by the serial ATA, slot 4 might be another one you can try.

I’ve tried ditching the USB / Firewire card and buying a new Firewire only card – as if by magic it all works. Thanks for all the help.
