If you are going to have the cam for a while you might want to look into videoredo.com it uses smart rendering so impact is minimal to the Mpeg video

Here is a $10 codec, Canon still cams use Mjpeg files for video like Steven mentioned.

Thats not going to be the only problem, if you bought a full version of Premiere and tried to load the converted Mpeg2 you could have an audio problem because the audio embeded is Dolby 5.1, thats why I suggested you try Premiere Elements which can import it.

Capture via firewire for use in 6.x it will keep the audio tied to the video, if you have 6.0 goto the Adobe site and download the 6.01 upgrade for it.

Consumer formats like .mod can be edited in the consumer version of Premiere called Premiere Elements. There is a trial version available for download.

When you capture Anamorphic video the camera is set to normal 4:3 so there is no widescreen bit, to fix this, when the footage is in the bin, clik on it to select it, then open the file menu, select interpret footage and change the pixel aspect ratio to the proper one for your video format like 1.2 for DV NTSC.
I usually use Widescreen anamorphic lens on my projects for B-roll to mix with various flavors of HD, I use Scenalyzer to capture with as I can do two or three captures at once, and if the Scenalyzer capture is set to 16:9 it adds the WS bit to the footage. -

Did you load the drivers like Vincent mentioned? If you already have check the disk you loaded from and see if there is a directory for ASIO drivers, if so load them, if not you can download a driver called “ASIO4ALL” and load that.
