how to sony hdr-sr1e footage in premiere pro
hey, I have just bought the sony hdr-sr1e and I really like the cam but now I’ve shot some footage and want to edit it in hd. I work with Premiere pro 2.0 but when I try to add my .modd files to the project it doesn’t accept it. Is it possible to edit the footage wihtout converting it first (and probably lose quality)or do I need an other programm to edit it?
ps. Yes I have searched the internet but couldn’t find anything about this.

AVCHD files are not supported by Premiere Pro since is is a consumer format – at least at the current level of data rate and optics anyway.
Convert the files to HDV using this product from Elecard.

Consumer formats like .mod can be edited in the consumer version of Premiere called Premiere Elements. There is a trial version available for download.

thanks, but premiere doesn’t accept the mpeg2 file. With the programm of sony I can convert it to mpeg2 too and premiere doesn’t accept that file too. I get a message that the file is damaged of is not supported. I already downloaded the hd plugin for premiere. do I need an other plugin for mpeg2? or how can import them?

What version of Premiere Pro are you using? Trial versions won’t work with MPEG video. And older versions won’t edit native HDV.

Thats not going to be the only problem, if you bought a full version of Premiere and tried to load the converted Mpeg2 you could have an audio problem because the audio embeded is Dolby 5.1, thats why I suggested you try Premiere Elements which can import it.

A friend of mine has bought premiere pro 2 and we tried it there and the programm accepted the mpeg2 files. but when we tried to export the project the quality of the exported movie is so bad and we have tried several settings for the filetype and compressor but neither worked good. what are we doing wrong?
