The answer to this depends a lot on what the producer did and what you have to work with. If you have access to a surround encoder and a DA-88, you can use that option. If the surround audio only exists on Digi Beta, you need the Dolby E decoder plus a Dolby Digital 5.1 encoder. Some authoring systems can transcode 6 Wav or AIFF files to DD 5.1. We do this all the time on Sonic DVD Creator, but this function does not appear in inexpensive software because of the cost of licensing the technology from Dolby Labs.
In our facility we have all these machines plus multiple 5.1 hardware encoders, so we do all the workflows.

If you have access to a Symphony with the secondary color correction system, you can do this in the color corrector without drawing any mattes. This is one of the effects that Avid demoed when they added the secondary color corrector.

The HD-DVD discs made by DVD Studio Pro 4 are a preliminary version of the spec and will only play on a G5 with Apple DVD player.

If you have access to After Efx there is a way to use the audio track to modify the parameters applied to the picture, such as XY position.

If you are not happy with the results you are getting from your encoder, the two possibilities for improvemnt are (1) learning how to use encoders better or (2) getting a better encoder.
Many people like Cinemacraft encoders on OS-X. You need to answer for yourself about your level of expertise in encoding video.

The Play button has no function within a DVD menu regardless of the authoring software used. If anything, the play button would cause the menu’s VOBU to play, which already plays automatically when you navigate to it. You can see what I’m trying to explain by looking at a motion menu on a DVD. Unless the UOPS are locked out, if you press play or pause, the menu itself responds to those buttons, not the menu entries. A still menu works the same way, as it is actually an object with a 12 frame duration and an infinte still.

You can do it in the VTR if the machine has the 3:2 pulldown board. Otherwise you will need to do a standards conversion. If you try to play a 24PsF tape with the machine set to 60i, you are speeding up the playback and will lose the audio, although the video might work. The audio circuitry in the VTR can deal with about a +/-0.3% speed change.
If you don’t have anyone in your area to do these conversions, we are in New York and we can do 24PsF to 60i conversions for you.

SRS is not a supported format in DVD. I believe it is Sony’s surround format for playback in theaters. You need to have a motion picture audio facility convert it to a 5.1 .ac3 for you.

I can tell you from experience that the DS Nitris system will import and use the flagged frames created when the Varicam is cranked over or under speed. I don’t know if Adrenaline has that capability. If not, your footage will be imported as 59P unless you run it first through Panasonic’s frame rate converter.
