If you resize your AE comp to 720×480 pixels without constraining proportions you will get anamorphic footage suitable for making a DVD in any standard DVD encoder. Just make sure you set the 16×9 flag when you encode.

Get a matchbox (Henry Engineering makes a good one). Around $175 at any pro video or audio supply house.

October 24, 2005 at 4:35 pm in reply to: Exception: A non-drop frame tape was inserted error ??

When you insert a tape into the VTR, play it for a few seconds using the VTR controls before you give the tape a reel name in Avid. Avid will then store the correct drop frame flag with the reel name, and you will never see this error again.

Play the tape before entering the reel number and Avid should store the correct frame code mode with the reel number.

The formatting of a program usually is specified in the list of deliverables from the station or network that is airing the program.

And mix it with the program audio if you wish to hear both the program and commentary together. You can’t mix multiple audio streams in DVD.

September 26, 2005 at 7:43 pm in reply to: Avid DVD by Sonic – Functionality Questions

I don’t use the low-end authoring systems, but your software is the same as Sonic DVD Producer, and you might find people who use it in the DVD Authoring forum on the Cow.

To block remote control functions, you are looking to disable “Uops” or User Operations. Search the help info in your software to see if you can find any info on that topic.

September 26, 2005 at 7:33 pm in reply to: authoring a dvd over two hours

You had better have access to a good MPEG-2 encoder in order to retain the image quality at the bitrate you will need to use to fit two+ hours.

I always assign a color to my sequences, as you can search by color in the bins.
