  • Exception: A non-drop frame tape was inserted error ??

So I’m trying to capture some footage off a betasp from a DVW-A500 with an Adrenaline system on a PC. I sometimes get this error (as in right now):

“Exception: A non-drop frame tape was inserted.
A drop frame tape was expected.
Please insert the correct dropframe tape.”

Now, I’m not working with previously logged footage. I just put the tape in, and this comes up. Sometimes it comes up after I find my in and out and press digitize. I’m thinking there must be something I’m missing, but it shouldnt be able to deted D or ND and jus deal with it. You cant type in : or ; in the digitize tool so what does this machine expect from me. Restarting the break out box alleviates the situation but I’d rather find a real solutions. Thanks for any ideas!

Be sure the tape is in the machine, and inside video, before giving it a name. so it can sample the time code. This is the easiest way to not have the problem for me.

When you insert a tape into the VTR, play it for a few seconds using the VTR controls before you give the tape a reel name in Avid. Avid will then store the correct drop frame flag with the reel name, and you will never see this error again.

I have this problem when the VITC and LTC do not match. I have had DF VITC and ND LTC and vice versa. When I switch the machine (digibeta mostly) over to LTC only problem goes away.
