    Jeremy,

    Thanks for your response…

Yes I did…. I was in the middle of a project when the enclosure died, so I tried to keep all the drives in the same slots and keep editing. After the system started crashing, I was forced to re-ingest the footage from the original XDCAM camera files and re-connect the footage to my timeline.

I would off load all the footage to another drive and re-stripe the drives/raid, but it won’t even stay up for more than a few seconds.

One more thing I didn’t mention before…… I’m using a program called “Softraid” …. I wonder if that could be the root of the issue?

    David,

Thank you for your response ….. yes, it does seem I may have been told the wrong information.

Regarding the drive enclosures working separately …. they actually won’t crash the system when only one enclosure is attached, only when both are attached at the same time.

I think I need to make some calls to the manufacturers regarding the compatibility of these two enclosures.
I’ll post something when I get more information.

In the meantime, if anyone has had good/bad experience mixing drive enclosures please let us know ….. thanks!

I had a similar problem shooting via a Sony PMW-350 in the XDCAM EX codec. My assumption was the problem was related to the heavy compression in the 4:2:0 35mbs XDCAM EX Codec, since I’ve used the effect without issue using my Sony F900 at 50mbs.

    What camera are you using?

  • Chris,

After posting the same problem on the PDW camera site I’ve come up with some answers for those with the same problem.
    1. You have to have the latest Snow Leopard update from Apple for 720 support with XDCAM 422 50mbs clips in FCP.
    2. At this time you need to utilize the newest Sony XDCAM Browser ver.1.1. Once loaded access the browser via FCP import function…. select clips and use the “Register with FCP” to import the clips into FCP and store them in the folder you setup in XDCAM Browser preferences.

Hope this helps others with the similar problem.

    Thanks!

  • Chris,

Thanks for your response …. you are correct, I posted the wrong info …. I shot 60 over 30. I also did not mention that the XDCAM transfer program stated the “Codec Not Supported”. After posting, I checked the latest apple pro app update which includes support for XDCAM 422 720p. When I get to the office I’m going to try the update to see if it works.

    Thanks!

    Zane,

Thanks for your response…. Sony had included a CD with the SXS Driver(mac) and a SXS UDF Driver. Once I loaded them properly everything worked. Thanks again!

    Zane,

I did the short method….. I didn’t realize it would cause problems. Hate to start over by re-formatting the system drive, but if that’s what it will takes I may have to go that route.

    Thanks!

    November 14, 2010 at 5:35 pm in reply to: PDW-800 vs PMW-500

    John,
Thanks for your response, I was hoping you would share your thoughts. Have you found yourself transferring files to drives for clients that don’t have the XDCAM players? Do you use the PDW-U1 to accomplish this or the Nanoflash? I’ve found many of my clients are comfortable with the XDCAM EX codec since many of them have used footage from the EX-1/EX-3, but I could see providing them with Pro Res via the Nano flash could also work. What has your experience been?

    Thanks!

October 9, 2010 at 6:18 pm in reply to: RT Playback Issue

    John,

Thanks for the info….. I will try the AJA test to see how the well the drives are performing. I do have the 4 port esata card with a second 5TB raid attached. I’ll try moving the project file and seeing what happens and also try moving the QT file created from the show to a new project to see if that plays back without issue.

    Thanks!
