  • XDCAM 422/50mbs 720p Overcranked Clips not Importing into FCP 7.03

Posted by Bill Paris on February 24, 2011 at 5:08 am

I shot footage with a Sony PMW-500 in the XDCAM 422 50 mps mode at 720p 30(29.97) over 60(59.94) overcranked to get slo mo footage. The problem I’m having is XDCAM transfer program (ver 2.12.0) is telling me the footage is “Un Supported” and the “Import” function is greyed out. Footage from the same drive shot in 422 50mbs at 1920X1080 29.97 is working fine. I’ve also tried going through FCP (ver. 7.03) without success…. any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks!

shooting 720p 30 will not give you slo-mo.
Where you in variable frame rate mode? You should have increased the frame rate. Did you shoot 60fps?

    Chris,

Thanks for your response …. you are correct, I posted the wrong info …. I shot 60 over 30. I also did not mention that the XDCAM transfer program stated the “Codec Not Supported”. After posting, I checked the latest apple pro app update which includes support for XDCAM 422 720p. When I get to the office I’m going to try the update to see if it works.

    Thanks!

    Chris,

After posting the same problem on the PDW camera site I’ve come up with some answers for those with the same problem.
    1. You have to have the latest Snow Leopard update from Apple for 720 support with XDCAM 422 50mbs clips in FCP.
    2. At this time you need to utilize the newest Sony XDCAM Browser ver.1.1. Once loaded access the browser via FCP import function…. select clips and use the “Register with FCP” to import the clips into FCP and store them in the folder you setup in XDCAM Browser preferences.

Hope this helps others with the similar problem.

    Thanks!
