June 2, 2015 at 2:16 am in reply to: Warning: Problem with Seagate 1TB Portable USB Drives and Transferring Media from New MACPROThe problem was with all the seagate 1tb drives I had, but only coming from the new Mac Pro….. They work when transferring via usb3 from card readers connected via a MacBook pro. The Gtech drives work in both configurations.

Jeremy,
I had a similar problem where FCPX wrapped the media from a 5D Mark 3 and gave it a similar title to the ones Jeff encountered. The problem came up when my raid went down (raid 0) and I had to re-build the project from the original media. Now many of the clips are not connecting since the pointers in the project timeline (Pointing to wrapped media) will not find the files that have been re-imported from the camera originals. Is there any way to change the names in the timeline? I have the same issue with XDCAM footage used in the project as well.
Any advise is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

Thanks Jeremy and Bret,
By placing the backup project file in the old “FCP Projects” and FCP Events” folders located on a backup drive over to the new TB drive …. “Updating Projects and Events” via the “Locate” option I was able to convert the files to the new 10.1.1 file format.
Thanks again!

Patrice,
Thanks for responding…. I made a typo, the OS is up to date with 10.8.3. The other odd thing that will happen sometimes is that playback will work, but the cursor won’t have any affect on the timeline. Fortunately it doesn’t happen often, but wondering if this is a computer issue on my end or a possible bug in the software?
Thanks,
Bill

April 2, 2013 at 7:55 pm in reply to: How much should I charge to produce a documentary for someone?Sebastian,
One more way to look it….. most camera ops, DP’s etc in my market usually charge a day rate based on 10 hours…. if you usually charge $30 per hour, I would say charge $300 per 10 hour day. Why per day? It keeps your client from using you for one hour here, two hours there, etc…. and forces them to commit to planning for days of shooting… not hours. If you have some days that are very short, you may also consider a 1/2 day rate… most guys usually charge 2/3 of the day rate for up to 5 hours, since you will not be able to book other shoots on that day. (Opportunity costs)
Like many others have already said….. there are many factors that determine what your day rate will be and the people trying to help you were only trying to get more information to determine what a fair rate for you to charge should be. Hope you find all the feedback helpful.
