Thanks John. I modified the script as you instructed and it works perfectly. It really smooths out audio transitions quickly–way cool. Bill.

My camera has the same digital VU meter as Sony Vegas. Unfortunately, Sony Vegas doesn’t reflect the same audio levels at which the audio was originally recorded (on a digital XDCAM HD transferred digitally direct to Sony Vegas from a Professional Disc). Bill.

Thanks Duane, I’ll give Jim a call. Bill

Thanks Steve, The editing system, Sony Vegas Pro 8, w/ computers, has already been ordered, same with the cameras (Sony XDCAM PDW-700’s). I’ve been learning the software for the last month at home, but I would like to talk to somebody who has actually been using it in a news environment–find out any tricks they’ve learned using the software. On a daily basis we typically shoot approx. 30 minutes of video/audio and edit that into a 1:30 story, sometimes in less than 30 minutes time (once everything’s loaded into the computer). Bill.

Thanks guys for your help. I’ve been scrubbing by dragging the mouse, using the J,K,L keys, and by zooming in and using the audio peaks. All those methods work, but I can’t zero in on a precise audio frame as quickly as I can with a jog wheel, or with frame-by-frame cursor control with a key stroke. I’m a news photographer/editor and speed is critical. Basically, I want to be able to do with the audio what I can do with the video–move one frame at a time and “hear” the sound. I’ll have to get used to it. Thanks again for the quick response to my question. Bill.

Thanks John, that’s a serious limitation in my opinion. Every other edit system I’ve used (AVID, Premeire, Sony DNE 700) have audio frame scrubbing. I’m bummed. Bill.

Thanks Ed, I figured it out last night. I changed the timecode to 6 frames and I changed the SetPoints as follows:
SetPoint(VolEnv, myVegas.Transport.LoopRegionStart – FPDist, ClipVol);
SetPoint(VolEnv, myVegas.Transport.LoopRegionStart + FPDist, ClipVol);
SetPoint(VolEnv, myVegas.Transport.LoopRegionStart + myVegas.Transport.LoopRegionLength – FPDist, ClipVol);
SetPoint(VolEnv, myVegas.Transport.LoopRegionStart + myVegas.Transport.LoopRegionLength + FPDist, ClipVol);Thanks again, Bill.

I’d like to see the timeline, and the trimmer window, at all times. When I’m working in the timeline I’d like to see the video in the trimmer window and when I’m working in the trimmer I’d like to see the video there as well (not both at the same time, of course)–as if I was looking at everything on an external monitor.

Thanks Ed, I had the audio track and the event selected, but I didn’t make a selection area–that did the trick. Cool, your script will save me a lot of time editing, appreciate it a lot. Bill.

Thanks Rob, works just like you say, cool. When I was playing around earlier I was entering the +/- key after the number, which didn’t work, and I was in the wrong box. Thanks for setting me straight. Bill.
