Calibrate Audio Meter
Is there a way to calibrate the audio meter in Vegas Pro 9c? The audio levels displayed on my audio meter are not the same as what they were recorded at. For example, I record tone from my Sony PDW-700 XDCAM at -20db, import directly as an mxf file, and my audio Master Audio Meter shows -8db (even when only 1 audio channel is selected in timeline). Could it be that your camera VU meter is displaying analog dB while Vegas is using digital dBFS? there is no standard to calibrate to. Some say that -18dB analog is 0dBFS digital but other use different numbers. Vegas will always display digital dBFS.

My camera has the same digital VU meter as Sony Vegas. Unfortunately, Sony Vegas doesn’t reflect the same audio levels at which the audio was originally recorded (on a digital XDCAM HD transferred digitally direct to Sony Vegas from a Professional Disc). Bill.
