January 14, 2008 at 6:54 pm in reply to: Weird renders in FCP

Well at least, I’m not alone in this world!

In my case it happens only with stills and also Alpha channel movies.
The stills produce the effect on something as simple just have a video on L1.. and still on L2 with cross dissolves at the edges.

Render still per still worked sometimes.. specially on the first render (on preview, everything plays back okay) a soon you start to re-render or modify and render.. event that workaround is not working.

Another werid thing is, even having the complete Timeline rendered manually… if you export a quicktime movie, the resulting movie have the crazy renders.

I have tried to render with the two 10 bit YUV modes.
Also I have found that flushing the render queue on RenderManager.. resets the problem and you can, again, render the timeline still by still.

Do you think it’s something related to Prores Codec?

  • well, I did the same as you with my MBP.. and I have experienced a little bit more “erratic” behavior on FCP, specially on the UI drawing.. I have to say that at home I have the MBP connected to a 30 inch screen… anyway, overall FCS it’s working fine and almost all apps are working okay.. but Leopard tends to slowdown a lot, specially when some apps (like Abobe ones ) stay on the on the background for a while… browsers hang a lot (safari and Firefox).

Anyway.. as Ben said, it’s my personal laptop and I have just upgraded.. (to lazy to reinstall all again and specially move all the data back an forth) and as I read on several places.. Leopard works best when it’s clean installed.

But I’m thinking, after reading your post, that maybe (and wishing) Leopard could be the solution to the problem that the two edit stations (G5 Quad and MacPro) where I’m editing are having. FCP is not rendering still images or rendering graphics out of place… seem a bug in the Render cache manager..

    Let’s see!

    Hi,

Finally!.. I’m not alone in this world suffering this “old-time-like” weird behaviors!

I will go this afternoon to the Production Company.. and check all the situations where it happens. (Is not my own FCP, I’m hired there as a freelance editor)

It happens to you in ProRes also? or have U find the same problem working with other codecs?

    thanks!

Is what I was guessing…. but I find a post here that led me to confusion!

    Hello..

Yes it’s useful for other people!

Im not sure… but can you use the HVR-M10 to monitor FCP while you’re editing?
I know for sure that this is NOT possible with the cams.. but I’m not sure about the deck…

    thanks!

    Thanks,

In this case the choice have something of “aesthetic” since it’s a “client” room.. but I will not sacrifice performance for an aesthetic issue.

I will have the ATI XT850X as soon as they appear on the market… (my dealer expect them for mid january).

If booth perform the same I will go with the 30″.

    thanks!!!!

    yes!

with the 1.1.4 beta drivers works perfectly…

if fact if you read the release notes of the 1.1.4 driver “now capture to DVCPROHD 1080i50 is supported”

so simply what I was trying was not supported by the driver….

    Sorry sorry sorry

it was a mistach while I was writing…
and also my english, it’s very poor! (I’m speak Catalan so we construct sentences backwards!)

sorry I meant capture to DVCPROHD (100) …
anyway downconvert to any other codec works.

I have received response from the AJA tech support and it’s a driver problem
It will be solved in the next driver release (1.1.4) together with analog audio delay

    thank U anyway!

Hello and thanks for the response I’m a little bit desesperated because i’m running short of time..

    the system is brand new….
all the stuff is flaged at 25fps

I can digitize via firewire 720p60 at 60fs
    I can digitize via kona2 720p60 and 25pfps

setting the 1200 deck to 1080i50 HD-SDI out
I can digitize via HD-SDI (kona2) from 1080i50 to ANY codec but dvcprohd50

here is the config and the crashlog if it helps or gives any ligth…
