theres no way to filter like you are suggesting, wish there was

the whole thing has potential but unsure why they didnt implement in the same way as Aperture works e.g. proper smart collections, GPS additions to footage, export of metadata out of program to social media, proper copy paste metadata

also I am unsure if metadata mapping is happening properly with content like p2 cards, this would be interesting to know if it works

also pretty sure there is no metadata templates like there was in final cut server, shame, that is what is really needed.

this is the best thing I have heard on FCPX for quite some time

this proves there is going to be a massive developer community around workflow

no API and a guy who says he isnt a full time programmer has knocked this together

think we have some nice API goodies on the run up to christmas

only way i could find is make compound clip on area of the timeline with all elements you wish to cut

then use your trim to selection tool (mark in out then alt )

then break apart (once only be careful) the compound clip

    this is the only way

its also impossible to trim across all elements unless you use this technique (not sure i think this is good)

August 26, 2011 at 4:08 pm in reply to: Timing Markers Workaround

this is the sort of thing that should always have been done on the source clip (in events now) doing in the timeline is a way but not ideal

that there is no mark to markers is poor though

you probably want to be having the music as the primary storyline in this instance, this would achieve the same as you are trying to do and would be tidier, the other clips connect to that primary storyline (the music is whats leading the visuals)

  • I tried the move the clip I want to visually slip to a connected clip with the gap clip left on primary storyline, this seems the most robust way, use alt cmd up or down to move off primary stoyline

the storyline way and reconnect whereabouts u attach to primary storyline using alt cmnd click works sometimes but not when overlapping audio (as you cant create the storyline) or when there isnt anywhere to sensibly reconnect

I agree for music based edits you should have the music as the A roll and connect the other clips to this

think my intial post was vague, I was actually refering to a piece of audio that continued from a previous shots dialogue but was the audio only from another take, standard thing when editing dialogue

Has anyOne tried the position tool and add gap

Not so tricky to have those gaps appear

I agree trimming across multiple tracks isn’t possible and should be

The magnetic timeline really isn’t that different

    Get over it

The software will get upgraded to what you are after in time

if you like sequences as a way to try things out

create new compound clips in the events browser

    serves exactly the same function

also duplicating and adding a compound clip to an audition branches it out so you now have 2 options at that point in timeline

not sure I agree on the split edits point he makes, yes assymetrical trimming cant be done

split edits are a double click to expand and can be trimmed out from in or out and in any direction to sub frame accuracy

may not be understanding his point but also think a lot of this bashing comes from actually misunderstanding the interface

e.g. people are complaining no video only transition, try option clicking edit on video to get that result
