other way is to create a motion favourite if you are working across timeline

then select all, make the motion favourite a default filter and then apply default transition

why use the natress standards convertor?

you can use Compressor to change formats, it takes ages but it is good quality (using Shake algorithms)

probably best going out from uncompressed pal to uncompressed ntsc though

also probably a good idea to put a broadcast safe filter in final cut before reauthoring the disk as your colours spaces are different between pal and ntsc

was wondering what card slot would you suggest on a PCI-x G5 as I also have documentation for my PCI-x slot Seritek firmtek 4 port esata card saying it wants to be in slot 4 which is the 133mhz slot

also heard it can be difficult getting some blackmagic cards to fit this slot

try using the frame controls feature of compressor, it should be the same as shake

it has presets to do standards conversion

problem is can be difficult to get the MPEG2 file from the dvd, any ideas on a mac.

Know there is open source ffmpeg style tools that convert to relevant codec and convert the ac3 dolby to pcm AIFF, but not got them to work really (not sure of legality either)

there is also this which could get well complex but could from the sounds of it convert a lot of files

as far as I know compressor is using shakes algorithms to upscaling

this is fine for what you need I would imagine

make sure to set the frame controls to a suitable setting e.g.
resize filter best (will take longer)
click on adaptive details as this is to do with scaling if deinterlacing and make sure to get a balance between details level and anti alias if doing this (good explanation in shake manual basically sharpening edges and details level is this and anti alias is softening the rolloff)

the easiest workflow for subtitles is by far this
    https://www.spherico.com/filmtools/TitleExchange/index.html

you use final cut pro and then send via xml

    wtach the movie at bottom
