  • which slot to install BM HD extreme?

Posted by Paul Nevison on November 2, 2007 at 12:00 pm

Hey just installing a new Decklink HD extreme card in a new Macpro quad 3ghz

which slot should the card go in? Graphics card is in slot 1 and the other three are currently empty.

eventually a FC card will need to go in to connect to an Xsan, but that’s not for a couple of months and am using local FW800 storage for now.

any suggested slots? and does this even matter anymore (in the days of Cinewave slot management did make a difference)

    thanks

    thanks Dan,

it seems BM haven’t updated their support docs in quite a while, so my next question is which driver should i go with in the following system, 6.6 or 6.1?

    MacPro 3ghz quad
    FCS 2 (FCP 6.0.1)
    10.4.10
    CS3

    thanks

Currently I’m running the 6.5.1 driver. I’m in the middle of projects so I don’t want to update to 6.6 yet. When I finish up these shows I’ll probably load the 6.6 driver.

    thanks Dan,

one other thing is the breakout cable on your Decklink HD extreme ridiculously short? on my previous Decklink SD card it came with a long breakout cable. This one is so short it’s virtually useless!

    thanks

Yes my cable is the short one, too. I guess they save a few bucks giving us the short cable. I had to pick up a few new audio and video cables to complete my system wiring. I’ve been happy with mine and support has been there when I had questions.

    Good luck!

was wondering what card slot would you suggest on a PCI-x G5 as I also have documentation for my PCI-x slot Seritek firmtek 4 port esata card saying it wants to be in slot 4 which is the 133mhz slot

also heard it can be difficult getting some blackmagic cards to fit this slot

    Ben,
I don’t have that same setup but here’s the info from the BMD site.
