its 2008; how about at least 1 HD clip? I appreciate the sentiment, but its like giving someone a free Atari game when everybody’s playing Wii.

January 14, 2008 at 6:09 pm in reply to: exporting to quicktime problem: Kern Protection Failuredo you have in plug-ins such as Magic Bullet filters in your project? I have a recurring problem where applying those filters will sometimes corrupt a file to the point that every time I click the clip in the timeline, FCP shuts down. To fix it, I just delete the clip in the timeline and recut from the original. Dont know if this is your issue, but I figured Id mention it.

Hello,
I was wondering why you would recommend a self contained QT instead of a Reference movie. Is it because Compressor will still take a long time with a Ref movie? Just curious. Thanks,

You could also try using MPEG STREAMCLIP. Its a free download off the interweb, and it moves much faster than cleaner in muxing your movies.

there is no problem working with HDV in FCP6. Just use easy setup to create an HDV sequence with the correct specs, and edit natively. Then after your cuts are made, use compressor and “advanced format conversion” to create a DVC PROHD clip directly out of FCP; or make a reference movie if you dont want to tie up FCP. Or if you dont like Compressor you could use various other 3rd party software. Thats what Id do

Thank you both for the information about the codec, the million+ thing is really good to know. I would rather export to divx straight from final cut, but when I try to batch export using divx, I cant change the divx settings, default only. Is there a way around this?d So that would mean Id have to do 76 sequences manually, and I was hoping to set this up at the end of the day and leave, so Im not tying up fcp all day. Any ideas as to the 2.5 min problem I was having? Ill try changing million+ to milion and see what happens.
thank you for your time, I really appreciate the insight.

Im using animation because I have to compress further with divx, and want to maintain the highest quality. Also, its in the specs I have for this project.

I think I could figure it out in compressor, but I would still love to check out your template if possible. These are movie trailers, and yes, the company I work for has permission to use them. Theyll be played on the monitors using a “digital video box”, a nice piece of technology I’m not that familiar with yet. my e-mail is bennykaps@hotmail.com.
Thanks a bunch, this is all really helpful. -
I downloaded the files off the internet, so they’re already compressed; However they still look pretty good. As far as the file size, I agree its a strange size. Looking at the file properties it says the original file size is 1920×800; then is says new file size is 1724×718. I set the dimensions to 1920×800 for for new exports. This seemed to work. Is it possible that the strange dimensions are what was messing up my export the first time I tried?
Thanks for the help
