So, if I have a Dual-layer DVD, and I delete the .layout file inside the VIDEO_TS folder, will it still play or will said DVD player not know where the layer break point will be?
Again, just curiuos.
All the best,

What does deleting the .layout file do?? I’m just curious. I’m having a similar issue with a project that I did for a client. They want maximum playability. The DVDs seem to play just fine on DVD players that have been made within the last couple of years, but they don’t play very well, if at all, on DVD players that are several years old.

Thanks, Kevin! I am planning on using video in the “light wall” and while I haven’t had a chance to get back to that project specifically, I was thinking that i needed to do exactly what your input suggested…the limited color palette.
Thanks a bunch everyone!! I’m off in the right direction!

I do the same thing as Eric, but on occasion, I have been known to leave some handles on the greenscreen clips in my editing timeline (if I have dissolves or transition effects in my timeline that require the extra handles).
I use Final Cut to edit, and since there’s no way to rountrip my files to AE and back (at least not that I’m aware of), I find this to be the best overall solution, but it can be a bit cumbersome when you’re editing to music or SFX and you have a LOT of edit points that leave you with a lot clips to work with.

i actually used woodalls tut for a project i just did, and it was good enough to wow the studio execs. instead of a 3 pixel gap per layer along the z-axis, i use a 1 pixel gap (sometimes a .5 pixel gap), but i try to mask the gaps with flares and flashes whenever possible. the only reason i use this technique, is that its quick, and sometimes easier to manage when you have other render intensive plugins.
plus, when dealing with studio execs…they almost NEVER know what they want, so i was changing the text QUITE frequently!
i think i’m the only one that notices the pixel gaps everytime i see the project.
but 3D invig and proanimator are the shiznit when it comes to hi-end 3D text effects!

here’s a dumb question not really related to the initial post, but what are the advantages of photo-JPEG versus some of the other codecs?

thank you so much for your suggestion. while i’m not sure what you’re talking about when you say to “bring distortion way down” on the CC Glass plugin, i did use the CC Glas plugin.
i created the text layer (with the text i wanted), applied the CC Glass plugin…fiddled a bit with it. then i duplicated the layer, deleted the CC Glass plugin on the duplicated instance and added the CC Blobbylize plugin…fiddled some more, then i changed the transfer mode of the duplicated layer to overlay.
thank you again so much for your suggestion, you certainly pointed me in the right direction!
all the best,

Thanks again!!

June 10, 2007 at 1:51 pm in reply to: Capturing PAL footage in FCP (5.1.4) on Sony DSR-50 DeckHey Jerry,
Thanks for the reply…unfortunately, that didn’t work. I should’ve mentioned that I’ve tried all the PAL settings in FCP, to no avail.
Same thing is still happening…I’m getting audio signal and timecode. Even with the video option checked in the clip settings panel of the log capture window checked, it still says “preview disabled”.
If you have any other suggestions, I’m all ears.
Let me know,
Ben
