is there a way of creating a metallic luster (or sheen) in AE 7 pro using just the plugins that come bundled with it? the beveling alpha effect is close to what i’m trying to achieve, but i’m looking for a more metallic look than what it’s giving me.

    anybody have any suggestions?

My suggestion would be looking at CC Glass (turn distortion way down) or upgrading to CS3 which has full support for Photoshop Layer Styles. I made some cool text in AE today with a metallic beveled stroke around it and then animated the global light to get a sheen effect, it was nice for 3 minutes of work =)

    hey darby,

thank you so much for your suggestion. while i’m not sure what you’re talking about when you say to “bring distortion way down” on the CC Glass plugin, i did use the CC Glas plugin.

i created the text layer (with the text i wanted), applied the CC Glass plugin…fiddled a bit with it. then i duplicated the layer, deleted the CC Glass plugin on the duplicated instance and added the CC Blobbylize plugin…fiddled some more, then i changed the transfer mode of the duplicated layer to overlay.

thank you again so much for your suggestion, you certainly pointed me in the right direction!

    all the best,

    bE
