You can drag the anamorphic checkbox in the file browser across to the left so you can easily tell FCP what aspect ratio multiple files are – any of the many columns in the file browser can be ‘reordered’ in this way.

Dropped frames are most often caused by conflicts on the firewire bus, or a disk array that’s too slow to capture the codec you are using.
Please be more specific. You mean the AJA IO, or is it the IO LD or IO LA, or even the AJA IO HD.
Vitally, tell us what Mac you are using, what is connected to each port, and what type and make of disk array you have.

With the deck connected, set the external video to all frames and external video device to firewire – or whatever FCP calls the device, from within the VIEW drop-down menu. Connect a monitor to the deck to see if you can see playback off the timeline on the deck.
If you cannot specify a firewire deck as an external video source, you have an issue with the deck, not FCP.

Thanks Jeremy. I’m sorry, but childish name calling on this forum is not acceptable, and this is the second contentious thread that has been hijacked by this troll. I would strongly suggest you compare the performance of the Quad 3.0 and Quad 3.2 machines and see if think it’s worth the extra money. For some users, I’m sure it will be, don’t want to say for definite it isn’t – it’s a matter of priorities.
Apple have benchmarks up – I think barefeats have comparisons too.

You even admit the video will look jerky for parts with fast motion using FCP. So FCP is not doing as good of job as a telecine would with a Goerge Lucas Film.

Why do people come on a forum that exists (thankfully in an internet full of DV users asking basic questions) to help professionals learn and cause trouble. I like being here and having intelligent discussions. If you don’t, please leave, and stop trying to play with the grown-ups.
Honestly, this thread and the previous one (I think you all know the one I mean – this guy was involved as well) gets me down. Can’t we do something about the increasingly hostile trollers here?

You can export using the animation codec – that’s pretty universally used. However other quicktime codecs can be installed on AVIDs.

Just to be clear about this, FCP installs a number of professional codecs which Quicktime Player can then use for standalone playback.
It’s one of the reasons why FCP (or FCS as it now is) cost quite a bit more than FCE – As is the case with AVID express etc.

The problem is your video playback setting. Yours is telling FCP to output DV to the Kona so it can play out composite/component/SDI from the aja device to are using.
Set video playback to firewire device (I don’t have one connected so can’t tell you exactly what it will say, but if it recognises the deck, it will appear in the drop down list you get on the playback setting of the A/V devices tab). Audio should follow as firewire audio.
Monitor your edit to tape by connecting the DV deck to your monitor and speakers – this is important otherwise everything could look out of sync.
