I think Apple made some comment during or after the Stevenote stating they were going to offer ‘more realistic’ (or similar ad-speak) RAM pricing.
Perhaps it’s worked – Walter’s 4Gb must be the first 4Gb they’ve sold in about 5 years… 😉
Nice to see though, perhaps it’s the start of a trend, after all, they must be making some money from it – better than nothing at all.

Those CHV filters are very similar to the CGM set – probably not suprising as they’re both based on the same fx script language, I suppose. I use the CGM morph a lot – quick and easy. This one looks the same

No – where exactly did I do that? What article says that? Why don’t you take a look at it. Jeez. Supervideo (if that IS his real name) asked if FCP takes advantage of all 4 processors in a Mac Pro. At the moment, it appears not.
If you were to ask – as others have here – whether it’s worth upgrading from a Quad G5 to a Mac Pro at the moment, again INDEPENDENT benchmarks from a number of sources, running renders on FCP say not. You know, it seems like every time I say anything like this on this forum, I get jumped on. If you just want a lot of ‘yes please’ comments every time Apple brings out new kit, then fine – Don’t read my opinions, or just ignore them. But this is about real-world performance on current systems, with current software, from people seeking to make professional buying decisions NOW. Of course the decision is a different one in 6 months or 12 or 24. It always is. If you have a dual 2.0 G5, and you want a faster computer, get one.
I don’t really care what you do yourself – it’s your decision at the end of the day. Eventually, when they release a new version of FCP running on a new OS with even newer hardware, I expect it’ll be quicker than a Quad G5. The advice of a number of different experts who have tested the Mac Pro is that it is not for FCP YET – and if I read ONE article from anyone saying different, I will change my mind.

I like the CGM filter. The set’s good value, but I still used this film filter occasionally – even owning Sapphire.

No. FCP adds the ‘fields shift’ filter in all by itself sometimes. Don’t know why, but it smells of a bodge to me.
This is not the kind of judder you get with frame blending off. This is a PAL field order issue.
I’m gonna try this on a few stands at IBC – see if I can figure this out.

About 1-2% on some pro apps, according to the independent benchmarks! Enjoy. Take a look at the figures before you buy – I did.
I know what marketing hype is, Jeremy. That doesn’t mean a) I have to like it and b) that it’s ok. Sooner or later, Apple may trip over another line. Remember those ‘world’s fastest’ ads that Apple had to withdraw? As an adult I can make an informed decision about this – that’s what this thread’s about, right? I just don’t want less experienced Mac purchasers to fall down the rabbit hole. What’s wrong with that?

That’s an interesting conclusion. Since G5 Mac users don’t need to upgrade to 5.1, I think it’s unlikely there’ll be a different upgrade price from 5.0.x to 5.1.x. Seems a bit overcomplicated, and since 5.0.3 (even) is perfectly stable on a G5 machine, unnecessary. I can see the reasoning, just feel differently about this.
I guess we’ll know next April.
