If I understand correctly, the Mac Pro has two riser inside of it. And based on the article’s bottom line, I would install my 2 X 1 GBs pair on riser B to (potentially)take advantage of the quad-channel

August 28, 2006 at 9:46 pmSo why would anyone opt for Apple’s pricey ram upgrades?
=============No one really knows. I think Jane Goodall studied these mysterious “Apple-RAM-buyers” for a few years but she never reached any conclusions.

very true. Actually most of us recommend Crucial.com for RAM, but they do not have the Mac Pro RAM available yet. I actually went with Apple’s RAM as I’m only purchasing 4GB and for some reason, Apple’s pricing is very very close to everyone else at the 4GB level. It’s when you go beyond 4GB that the increases in price at Apple make no sense.

What about OWC (Other World Computing)? Seems very competitive and it is up to Apple’s specs.

Again, at 4GB prices are about the same so I went with Apple to make it easier. Anything beyond 4GB, I would get the RAM elsewhere. I prefer Crucial for all my RAM, but they don’t have it available as of right now. Should be soon, but they don’t have an availability date yet.

August 29, 2006 at 11:40 amI think Apple made some comment during or after the Stevenote stating they were going to offer ‘more realistic’ (or similar ad-speak) RAM pricing.
Perhaps it’s worked – Walter’s 4Gb must be the first 4Gb they’ve sold in about 5 years… 😉
Nice to see though, perhaps it’s the start of a trend, after all, they must be making some money from it – better than nothing at all.
