Sorry if this is obvious, but have you checked the channel mapping? Open the audio mixer, and right click on A3 and A4 in the left-hand column. This will tell you which channels they are being mixed down to, and you can change the assignment as required.

I realise that I’m a little late to the party/lynching/whatever, but – for what it’s worth I rarely if ever use nesting in FCP. IMHO it has always lead to instability and inconsistent behavior in FCP.
I realise that sometimes you have to nest – for example applying a filter/motion effect to a multi-screen edit of sequence. Used sparingly I have few problems. Most of the time I take the opportunity to render out sections and reinsert them rather than nest – once I’m happy with them -keeping the orginal.
You have my sympathies for your issues. Having a deadline messed up is never a good thing – I hope you get things sorted. It seems to me that older fcp users sometimes forget the little ‘workarounds’ they started using to get around fcp problems, and just start accepting them as ‘method’….

The difference is two-fold: A loss of colour information via compression (which makes accurate keying muchgmore difficult) and a loss of picture detail via compression. Your system loses the ability to accurately identify exactly the areas that are tricky to key. It’s really a big difference – the difference between a nice key and a tacky one IMHO.
I would really consider purchasing a cheap capture card, such as the $300 blackmagic card. You have a Digibeta deck (assume you meant Digibeta rather than Beta SP with SDI out, which we have but are rarer) which costs that much a couple of days to hire, and a DVCAM deck you don’t even need here. If you have spent the time and money to shoot at Beta quality, don’t cheat on this in post – especially with CK. There are, of course, better quality DV codecs you could use here, but why bother

Not sure if this helps (you’re a little vague about what you’re doing – ‘chapters’ makes me assume you’re making a DVD project) but you’d be much better off exporting each of these sections as a quicktime movie and dropping them back into a timeline. If you want to stitch them together, you’ll find it easier. The QT export will be quick anyway, and subsequent Compressor exports to DVDSP (if that’s what you’re doing) would be quicker.
By the by, I always try to avoid nested projects – they cause these problems all the time, play havoc with media manager, and leave you constantly re-opening sub-sequences for no reason. Use a master timeline, and if you need to ‘nest’ something for resizing/motion etc, render it off instead and place it into a new, simpler timeline – keeping the original for any changes. You’ll avoid all this re-rendering nonsense as well. I’ve also seen nesting cause the ‘Out of Memory’ error that can cause you to revert to a previous version of a project – I always assumed this was due to a sort of ‘divide by zero’ calculating error that nesting caused, although I’ve never had that confirmed by anyone.
But that’s just my 2c. Export each finished section as QT – it’ll work out much better for you.

As previously stated Pete – will be there with our little truck (big truck with huge fcp suite not ready yet. Ho hum).
We’ll be down with the trucks, but I got a lot of purchasing decisions to make for the new truck, so I’ll be all around on Sat/Sun/Mon (after Sky release me from HD studio setup nonsense for Champions League).

The vignette’s nice, similat in look to above method, but neater being a filter.
That Face Light though, the other free one, is great. What a useful little filter for all sorts of uses. Looks nicer than a couple of spotlight filters I have.

FC3 runs in 9.2.2 or 10.1.1 onwards. I think it may be the last version of FCP to support OS 9. Didn’t the install disc come with a version for OS9 and one for OS X?
Check your install disk – I doubt it’s the same install for both OS versions.

You’d need the decklink pro at $595, so it really depends if that’s worth your while in the longer term – it also doesn’t do analogue ins. Ideally you want Component monitoring if you’re using analogue.
Decklink and AJA offer the best support and vaule IMHO – and the opinions of most others around here. If you were to get hold of an SD monitor with SDI input, you could get the $295 decklink card and get fantastic monitoring befitting a DV50 stream. Don’t go cheap on the monitoring!
