  • cannot launch FCP3 in OS X. Why?

Posted by John Graves on August 30, 2006 at 3:22 am

My main harddrive contains both OS 9.2.2 and OS 10.3.8. When I try to launch FCP 3 from within OS X it starts launching OS9, then it says:

    “Aurora Igniter INIT Error”
Aurora Igniter hardware or driver not found error

and it also says (in OSX)

That application or control panel is not supported by classic.

I know I have igniter drivers for both OS9 and OSX. Since my FCP3 runs fine on my OS 9.2.2 but not OS 10.3.8, does anyone know what setting or correction might be made to be able to run FCP3 in OSX??

    thanks a lot

It cant run in OSX, its a classic application. FCP cannot run in the Classic Environment, you have to boot from an OS9 System Folder.

You need to upgrade to FCP 4.x or 5.x to run in OSX.

FC3 runs in 9.2.2 or 10.1.1 onwards. I think it may be the last version of FCP to support OS 9. Didn’t the install disc come with a version for OS9 and one for OS X?

Check your install disk – I doubt it’s the same install for both OS versions.

Yes I do have an OSX version on my FCP3 disk, but it wouldn’t install. Thanks for the suggestion, I will try again.
