Ouch, so there is no round-trip. Just read the article. You flatten the project and use scene extract in Resolve. There is no round trip so if you, for example, have to cut a feature to a 1 hour TV size you kind of have to redo all your grading;(.

    Anyone given speed-grade a try?

Can you please expand on this, they are around 40% cheaper than the Hitachi. I notice a year or so ago there were problems with the drives but surly that has sorted itself out?

Thanks, are all the Hitachi drives not green. What about the Seagate Barracuda or Western Digital AV-GP (although the GP sounds suspicious).

Is there a list of non green drives anywhere. In terms of the spin speed thing it seems all the ones slower than 72000 are green so are doubly bad although with RAID 10 5500 still should be more than capable of a couple of HD streams.

Yes, I think the issue is green drives are not good for streaming hidef video. Depends how you define best;). I am using the drives for video editing, not high speed backups. I am a student so affordability is a issue. What I am thinking of doing is replacing the drives wit Hitachi DeskStar 72000 as I do not think they are green. 60MB/s is over twice what I need.

OK, so is it ‘Mac Pro Nvidia 8800GT 8800 GT 1st Gen ’06/’07 1 Gig Enable Mercury Playback’? Do you ship to UK, it does not show up on ebay.co.uk (I am in UK).

Ouch, they are a lot more expensive. Are there any other non green drives that are ‘OK’?.

I am a student (so I guess I have no right to be using raid;) ).

Indeed, but I am only playing one. Anyway talked to Startech and they say it may be because I am using green drives. something about the power management in the enclosure fighting with the power management in the drive. This could explain jittery playback and slow rate.

Now all I need to know if which enclosure will work with 4 ‘green’ drives.

FW800. but HDV is only around 3MB/s so is this relevant?
