Thanks Chris and Walter for your quick responses.

Chris, cool about Matrox fixing that problem, I’ll certainly look into that.

And yeah Walter, I was surprised that the guy said that as well. It wasn’t John who is on the CalDigit Forum here at the COW, some other guy. What he said was that if I worked on DVCProHD 1080, then yes, I would need to go eSata. But since all I ever shoot is 720p (HVX200 720pn24) that I would not see that much difference. Also, that I would be out more of my pocket, less storage, and then when I eventually upgrade to a Mac Pro, that I would have to buy another card. And my thought is, probably be another year or so until I will have the funds to start buying more equipment (want to pay off some of this business loan and, well, getting married in Nov will cost some $$ 🙂

But I definitely appreciate the help, if you have any other suggestions I would love to hear them.

  • Thanks Sean and Jeremy for your responses. I have read that article by DVFilm and I know the difference between the 2323 and 2332 pulldowns and how the are captured in the camera.

But it is how the two differ in post that I haven’t experienced. The only thing that I know is that the “1080p24” footage that was recorded to the Firestore100 is bad.

Digitizing through my AJA at 1080psf 23.98 DVCProHD is better

And digitizing through firewire at 1080pA24, to my eyes, looks perfect.

I guess this is just something that I haven’t done before, so I am just freaked out and could use a little reassurance that 1080pA24 is a good way to go for this footage.

    Thanks again,

    Rennie,

Thanks again for your help. I figured it out! I just needed to do like you said. I had never set up my camera to see the remote in the Other Functions menu.

    Rennie,

Thanks for your help, I am currently trying to do these steps with the remote with 1 camera (I don’t have access to the second until Sunday) but I am not getting any response of the camera from the remote.

When I press the menu, stop, or any button on the remote, all that the camera does is Blink REMOTE in red at the top left corner of the LCD screen.

Any thoughts? Thanks again for your help.

Thanks you Vincent and Shane, the Firestore100 is the only I could think of also. I just posted another question about syncing time code with the two HVX200 cameras.

Do you know the best way to sync time code?

    Thanks again

    Russ,

Thanks for your help. Unfortunately, I am not going to be the one to do this, but I am the one that is told that I have to know how to do this.

So, you mentioned that Cinema Tools can do these conversions? I have also read just now about a program called, Graeme Nattress’s Standards Converter, are you familiar with this? And also can Compressor do this conversion? I read that Compressor does take a long time.

Thanks again and let me know if you have any other thoughts, please.

January 9, 2008 at 8:25 pm in reply to: Reconnect Media after renaming files

Thanks for the reply, I tried that and nothing happened. For some reason it just kept the same name, the “20070621-125816w15” file name.

Then I changed the name of the clip in FCP to “beach shot a-1” or something, did the Rename > clip to match file: and it renamed the file back to “20070621-125816w15”.

Not sure what what is going on?

Thanks again, if you think of anything else I would love to hear it.

September 25, 2007 at 6:24 pm in reply to: FCP freezing video during playback

    Thanks for your reply Thax,

But that didn’t help. I know tried to export the sequence and exactly where the Light Blue render bars are (which are supposed to be the bars that indicate something that has all ready been rendered) it stutters/freezes.

I do not get it! If you have any thoughts please let me know.

September 20, 2007 at 4:01 pm in reply to: Tutorials for Shatter Effect?

Thank you all for your help. I think I am finally at a point that I am somewhat satisfied with the effect. I ended up importing the image to FCP over a black screen, then exported it back out as a still image. Then brought it back to AE and put a Luma Key on it to take out the black, and viala!

The only thing that I’m not sure how to do, is how to make the sequence slower in AE. I tried doing it in FCP, but of course it looks like I am slowing it down in FCP.

Is there any way to take the effect that I have and make it nice and smooth slow motion?

    Dave,

Thank you for your help. My first problem is getting the logo to explode through out the entire frame. This will be exported into FCP in a DVCProHD sequence, which is 16×9 of course. The logo to be shattered is tall and skiny, so there is about a 1/3 of the frame left on each side. Right now, the logo is exploding with in itself. I need it to explode outward, beyond itself into the rest of the frame which will have a background.

Let me know if you have any thoughts.

    Thanks again,

    Beau
