… and use the +/- keys on the numeric pad ONLY.

You can select a clip on the timeline and type +4 to move it 4 frames later or -7 for 7 frames earlier etc.

If you click on the timeline time code display and do the same it will move the CTI accordingly. This behaviour occurs with all Premiere’s time entries including deck control, batch lists and so on.

Just a note on moving clips in the timeline as per my first example; there is a Premiere bug that will cause ALL transitions to be deleted if you use this method.

OK guys… here’s the tip for editing using ‘desktop mode’.

As discussed earlier the benefit is being able to use the ‘second head’ of the video graphics card to view full screen; the downside is the red render bar across ALL media. But on a good machine spacebar will allow RT playback while editing. Also it should be noted that you can still capture DV etc while in desktop mode.

So… to the trick. After completing your edit open a new DV project and import the desktop project you just completed. Then open its timeline and no red render bar (if the media is unaltered). All thats left to do is export to tape; minus the second full screen monitor.

It also should be noted that desktop mode will allow you to ‘make movie’ (gee I hate that term!) into any format you like.

My thoughts…? Well imo its an Adobe oversite, not a bug… because second monitor viewing works so well in HDV… but then you cannot see it thru the deck.

(ps. as a tip some graphics cards require to run in ‘clone’ mode and some in ‘extend desktop’ mode for this functionality to work)

Have you selected the timeline window before you go to export? And of course I assume you have selected Decklink device control.

Hey Leo… I wasn’t being critical of the Cow… Hell… I couldn’t operate without it… What I was implying was that if every Cow catagory had sub catagories within sub catagories it would end up a maze of confusion.

Hardware manufacturers like Pinnacle, Matrox, Canopus, etc have their own forums as does most other large companies where the sub catagories can exist so it only seems natural for BMD to do the same.

Of course the main concern for people here is that many users would migrate away from the Cow and spend their valuable online time at BMD… but hey!… just go with the flow…

    Hey Bo –

I am truly using HD-Cam at my facility along with just about every other format available, and I KNOW I am NOT suffering when I attempt to use HDV.

I also have a HVRM-15U “hi end” deck amoungst other HDV devices and I have taken the time to work out how to use them efficiently within a Premiere Pro/Multibride Extreme configuration. Maybe it is a Mac thing with you? Maybe its an NTSC thing?… I am PC/PAL and at the risk of repeating myself, am have great success with the combo having just finished my third HDV doco mastered to HDCam. (its the up-converted digibetacam stuff that lets the final product down).

    Bo said…
“I dont’ know what you do for a living, but it certainly is not a hi pressure enviornment, where someone expects you to produce.”

Now this is where I say Bo you are soooooo wrong! I produce international programs under extreeeeme pressure and have done so for over 30 years. Did you ever work in a ‘linear edit environment’ with the same pressures?… nowdays its a breeze as compared to the old ways!

AND OF COURSE SONY BROADCAST ARE GOING TO STEER YOU AWAY FROM HDV IN FAVOUR OF XDCAM!!!!

I often vent my criticism of certain software only to find others are using it fine… its good to see the same thing can happen in hardware… and be thankful there is no need for ‘capacitor rebuilds’ with Micro$oft stuff!

    hey Charlie…

“IMHO, HDV is a piece of wotheless junk in post-production 🙂 I much prefer DVPRO-HD.”

I am glad its just your opinion because many thousands out there are using that ‘wotheless piece of junk’ to make good money… and not just wedding-o-graphers!

I use it extensively along side HDCam and they co-exist as DVCam and Digibetacam existed in the SD world.

(ps. I assumed “wotheless” was a typo for “worthless”)

I think the next step in the ‘blackmagic’ evolution would be for them to have their own forums as the Cow seems to have too many catagories as it is now!

If Blackmagic wanna mix with the big boyz they gotta do what the big boyz do (limited only to the good things please)

August 22, 2006 at 12:09 am in reply to: HDV capture behavior on Sony HVR M25U

    Hello Mike

I posted this on the Adobe forums and it also applies to the 25…

    ——————————————————————————————-
The Sony HVR-M15 is a new HDV deck and will work with Premiere, HDLink and HDVSplit. Just be aware of the following …

When changing the decks settings between DV and HDV (ilink setting) you will have to unplug and reconnect the firewire cable. Windows needs to see it as two distinct devices.

The second thing is when using PPro’s HDV capture DO NOT set it as ANYTHING SONY! Use it as a generic device.

This unit doesn’t cue very well and goes from zero to a squillion in 0.5 sec. So set the FF/REW SPEED to ‘SHUTTLE’ to give capture a fighting chance. Be prepared for a few abort captures due to ‘not finding in time’ but on second attempt it will work. Other than that it is a fabulous device. I am looking forward to my first 240 min HDV timeline straight out to tape!

Also it is a little erratic on Shuttlepro.

    Baz
(PS. as an addendum… when using this deck in batch capture if it has problems with a cue point PPro will move onto the next in the list and report the non-captured items so its just a ‘click (clicks)’ and away you go again…)

    Hey Wes

In the project window click on one of those ‘phantom’ clips and then up at the top of the project window (where the clip thumbnail appears) there is a little arrow. Click on that and it will display the sequence that it is in and then you can click on that and it will open that sequence at that clip.

My bet is that you still have some sequences that you haven’t deleted from the project window but only from the timeline window
