  • How to trim numerically?

Posted by Jockomo on October 8, 2006 at 4:39 pm

I can’t seem to find this info in the help or by searching, sorry it’s a pretty basic question.

Is there a way to call up a numeric input box to trim your in, out, duration and/or current timeline position?
Specifically I’d like to use a keyboard shortcut to do this, sort of old school cmx style where you hit a key, type in your trim amount and hit enter.
I can’t seem to find these options in the keyboard short cuts.

    Thanks

You can select a clip on the timeline and type +4 to move it 4 frames later or -7 for 7 frames earlier etc.

If you click on the timeline time code display and do the same it will move the CTI accordingly. This behaviour occurs with all Premiere’s time entries including deck control, batch lists and so on.

Just a note on moving clips in the timeline as per my first example; there is a Premiere bug that will cause ALL transitions to be deleted if you use this method.

Thanks BazinoZ, but I must be missing something because when I hit the + key it just zooms into the timeline at the current position.

    Select the Tcode window first

… and use the +/- keys on the numeric pad ONLY.

Use the + key on the numeric keypad for timecode values. The + key on the top row of the keyboard (usually next to backspace) is for zooming.

    Hope this helps.
