I had a similar problem to yours a few months ago and tracked it down to the audio drivers/codec. I re-installed the sound card and it fixed it up.

The past responses are what you would have to expect when asked on a Premiere forum; it is a little one sided but expected. Try the same question on a Mac or fcp forum and you will get the reverse.. yes it can be very daunting, and never take anybody’s word for it; you have to try the different hardware/software yourself. But as has already been said, jumping ship isn’t a real solution if you are not really sure what the initial problem is.

I have been using Premiere since 4 (I still have the floppy discs to prove it) and many times during its evolution, frustration has led me to the expensive approach of ‘jumping ship’ only to find I was worse off than where I was. Times have changed since P4 and ALL NLE software has evolved, not to mention the hardware. And on the subject of hardware, the only advantage I have found with Mac over PC is there is far less hardware configerations to deal with on a Mac so the enigma of a crash is far less complex to resolve. Now don’t get me started on PC’s dependency on Microsoft… a very sad situation indeed. Mac has OSX, PC has SUX!

I have tried (and invested in) just about all from Avid, FCP, Speed Razor, Discrete, Media 100, Edius, Vegas, etc and have returned to my NLE origin in between each one. Now finally I have settled on Premiere and push it to the limit with HDCAM and I am not even considering looking at anything else.

i THINK MAYBE ITS BECAUSE YOU ARE USING A VERSION THAT HASN’T BEEN RELEASED YET

  • Just go into ‘project settings’ and ensure it has ‘decklink capture’ as the device and select ‘properties’ and set it to 5.1 (6 channels)

Also Nuendo does not like a PPro EDL. I have fixed them in notepad but I can’t remember how I did it (but I do have notes somewhere on my system on what I did).

But on a positive note, there is one program I know that likes the PPro EDL… yep… PPro reads them perfectly!!!!

  • Hey Peter… we use it with PPro all the time in both capture and mastering to digibeta and HDCAM. Its great for exporting main pic, mix and m&e in one pass. And recently we did a doco where they shot digibeta with cam mic (stereo) on tracks 1 and 2 and radio mikes on tracks 3 and 4. We ingested all in one pass.

Don’t bother with the feature request.. I have put one in for each version since Premiere 6.0… ZIPPO NOTHING.. NIL… It must have gone in the too hard basket! Now my crusade is to get ‘export to AAF’ to function… I think that is in the too hard basket also.

Another LARGE failing between Premiere and Avid is timecode. You get a timecode break in Premiere while offlining and you are doomed in online! but Avid.. NO WORRIES!

One day when Adobe sort this program out it will probably deserve the ‘PRO’ addition to its title.

When using PPro’s HDV capture DO NOT set it as ANYTHING SONY! Use it as a generic device.

This unit doesn’t cue very well and goes from zero to a squillion in 0.5 sec so on the deck set the FF/REW SPEED to ‘SHUTTLE’ to give capture a fighting chance.

temporarily rename your PPro 1.5 program folder to something obscure and reinstall the DL drivers. Then it should correctly instal everything for PPro 2. After that restore Ppro 1.5 folder name and everything is back to normal.
