Repeat clip notification in Premiere Pro 2?
Posted by Jamie Hoarty on November 2, 2006 at 5:02 pmI used to edit on an Avid. Avid would display a red line over any clips, or portions of clips in the timeline that were used somewhere else in the timeline, letting me know that I had already used that clip (or portion) somewhere else. Does Premiere Pro 2 provide any indication of repeated clips? Sure would work better than my memory!

November 2, 2006 at 5:18 pmYes it does. The bin has a column available that shows video and audio usage counts. Also, when you select a clip in the bin there is addition info available. At the top of the bin (where the playable picon of the clip is located) to the right of the picon is a tiny triangle. Click the triangle to dislplay a list of the locations (every place on every timeline) where the clip is used. Click one of the list items and you will be transported to that clip useage instance in the timeline.
Perhaps even better than the avid?

November 2, 2006 at 5:30 pmNot in the way you speak of. There are columns in the project folder
that indicates the number of instances a clip is used in the project,
but that’s it. And if you have multiple sequences with that clip in
it, that column just tallies the uses for all sequences. There’s no
way in PPro to show reused portions of clips like in Avid in the timline.
That would be useful though! Submit a feature request with Adobe!-Troy Murison

Many thanks for your help! Better than Avid? Not really, since the Avid displays what portion of the clip has been repeated. If you have a 2 minute clip that you use different potions of throughout the timeline, Adobe claims multiple uses for that 2-minute clip. Avid goes beyond this and shows what portion(s) of that 2-minute clip have been repeated. -

November 2, 2006 at 10:54 pmDon’t bother with the feature request.. I have put one in for each version since Premiere 6.0… ZIPPO NOTHING.. NIL… It must have gone in the too hard basket! Now my crusade is to get ‘export to AAF’ to function… I think that is in the too hard basket also.
Another LARGE failing between Premiere and Avid is timecode. You get a timecode break in Premiere while offlining and you are doomed in online! but Avid.. NO WORRIES!
One day when Adobe sort this program out it will probably deserve the ‘PRO’ addition to its title.
