I am having cueing problems with my new HVRM25U HDV made by Sony. I currently Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0 with a Matrox LE card.

The deck will overshoot the in-point in the timecode by about a minute then race back again past the in-point by about a minute. This repeats for about 3-4 cycles before it finally finds the pre-roll point. Sometimes the deck will settle for 30 seconds before the in-point, then play the tape and 30 seconds later, start digitizing, even though my pre-roll is set for 2 seconds. My deck is not listed on the Adobe Device Control options in the capture window. Know of any other Sony devices that would work with this deck? I called Adobe tech support and they claim that you can’t capture, using in and out points, with an HDV deck. They claim that you have to capture the whole tape and break it up during editing. I don’t think so!

When using PPro’s HDV capture DO NOT set it as ANYTHING SONY! Use it as a generic device.

This unit doesn’t cue very well and goes from zero to a squillion in 0.5 sec so on the deck set the FF/REW SPEED to ‘SHUTTLE’ to give capture a fighting chance.

Another point is that you are dealing with GOPs not frames.

    Baz,
This solved the over/under cueing problem 90%. Thanks! Once in awhile it still misses the mark, even with the FF/REW speed set at Shuttlemax. Hopefully Adobe will come out with a preset for that deck in the not too distant future. Many thanks for your help!
