[Michael Harrington] “the video which had been playing just fine all day began to stutter during playback.”

This is the first sign of impending trouble. Its an indication of memory getting low (due to memory leaks). I get it often on big FCP projects and occurs more often if I have a PDF open (yeah Adobe software).

The only solution to the ‘studdering’ is a complete system restart as you noted. But if you persist with it your system will (and did in your case) CRASH!!

So studdering playback = “NEAR KERNEL PANIC”
…. persist with it = “FAR KERNEL PANIC”

(please read the last part carefully and DON’T explain it to the children!)

[Michael Sacci] “/minute not second, I always do that, sorry.”

If it was per sec then my edit should be complete before I even enter the room!

I think the reverse playback field issue will be fixed when Blackmagic release their drivers for FCP 7 – otherwise its the ‘shift fields’ filter.

  • [Mike Kahn] “Don’t forget about a Kona 3 or Blackmagic card to get the media out to the JH3.”

ahhh…. the Sony JH 3 is a PLAYER ONLY. So its only data IN to FCP, no OUT to JH 3.

[Jeremy Garchow] “Hack your best buddy into buying you a new mac?”

Maybe we might be able to download a pirated Intel Mac off the internet so we can use FCP 7?
