You need to find yourself a good VAR you can trust. If you’ve got four uncompressed HD workstations in the mix and plan to add more in the future you’ll need boocu planning and extremely fast SAN hardware. I don’t recommend you attempt this without the services of a seasoned professional.

[Wayne Carey] “Let me give one word of warning. Use Carbon Copy to make a backup of your system drive before adding any updates for now until Apple can get a stable OS on the Mac Pro.”

    Very good advice !!

If you need analog input plus HD the Kona LHe is also an option.

I second that. We delivered our first MacPro based professional editing system yesterday. Had a few bumps in the road getting it ready but both AJA and Apple stepped up with the recent driver and firmware updates. It’s a great system, and even runs Windows (if you’re into that sort of thing – ha ha !)

The email I got from Atto Tech support also said October (which could mean November or December). At least the systems seem to be completely stable with only 2Gig of RAM in them. And that 4Gb FibreChannel is FAST !!!

    Bart

P.S. Hey Wally did you get the ATI card in yours ? How is it ??

September 20, 2006 at 1:22 pm in reply to: KONA LHe crash Mac pro on startup.

    Hi Oliver,

I realized yesterday that I happened to have an Apple PCIe FibreChannel back in the warehouse. I dug it out. installed it, and now the system’s stable. Unfortunately the link between MacPro and the Huge 4105 is only 1Gb. I tried forcing the Apple card using the Apple FibreChannel Utility, but that doesn’t seem to work properly in the MacPro (the setting doesn’t “stick”). So I changed the default setting on the 4105 to 2Gb but now I can’t get a reliable link.

My problem is I sold a 4Gb system to my client but only have a reliable 1Gb system ready to deliver. Where are the good `ol reliable G5’s when we need them (just kidding).

Two 512MB strips of RAM ? Have you tried reseating all the cards including the RAM risers ? Have you tried zapping the PRAM (cmd-option-P-R) ?
