Write-protect the cards before you put ’em in the computer. And copy EVERYTHING. Don’t cherry-pick and copy individual files, copy all the files and their associated directory structures.
And do *not* rename the CONTENTS folder, or any folder within it!

You can do that, but Panasonic recommends using P2CMS to do the copying. That way you’ll guarantee that you’re getting all the directory structures properly copied, etc. Plus, P2CMS can be set to do a “verified” copy (where it goes out and compares, bit-for-bit, the copy against the original to make sure you got an absolutely accurate copy).

You can only change that setting when you’re in SD modes (RECORDING SETUP set to 480 or 576). When in HD modes it’s always going to use THIN, regardless of what that menu item says (in blue).

If you’re going to be using FCP, drop that coin. Raylight shouldn’t even be considered optional, in my opinion! 🙂

When I was down in Australia they said they’d actually already received their first shipments of 32GB cards. Expect slim availability until January or so.
And 64GB cards should be coming at about the middle of the year, so maybe 6 or 7 months from now.

I’d recommend to any P2 users to avoid the 6.02/7.3 update for the time being. Wait for them to sort out what they broke.
If you have to go to 6.02/7.3 for some reason, be aware that they broke the system. Use Raylight to get back to work, skipping the whole Quicktime thing entirely.

Definitely not; the AVC board is its own microcomputer and costs something like $3,000. It wouldn’t fit in a 200 no matter how hard you squeezed. 🙂

The 2100 is the same as the 2000 but for one minor distinction; it has two filter wheels instead of one. The 2100 is sold in the Asia/Australia/NZ region.
Would I ditch a 2000 for a 3000? Well, it all depends on your priorities. If you value having the absolute crispest/sharpest picture in a video camera, and that is worth a $20,000 upgrade, then yes that’s what you’ll get with the 3000. But you’ll be giving up a bit too, such as 720p mode (the 3000 doesn’t do 720p mode) and thus you’d also lose 720pN mode.
I dunno, it’s all up to you as to whether you think the extra sharpness is worth another $20,000 (plus whatever you’d lose in trade-in value). But the 3000 also supports CAC, which is very nice, and the 2000/2100 doesn’t.
I don’t know of any sites that offer 3000 footage yet.

I haven’t seen 50-megabit at all. I’ve seen some 100-megabit footage and it looks flawless. But I haven’t had a chance to really put it under a microscope.
