  • Has anyone done a 2000 Vs. 3000 Test yet

Hey guys I was wondering if anyone has yet tested the HPX 2000 against the 3000? I was told from the reseller I bought the 2000 from that there was no need to spend and extra 20K b/c the difference was not substantial enough to warrant that extra cost. We took his word on it and went with the 2000. I’m extremely satisfied with the 2000, but curious about the 3000.
    Any opinions and/or results?
    Thanks,
    Bobby

I had a chance to put the 500, 2000, and 3000 through an uncontrolled but reasonable test at a trade show. I used the same tripod and same lens and swapped the three different bodies out, all shooting to 1080/25p DVCPRO-HD, all with detail mid-level, etc.

The 2100 is notably sharper than the 500, and the 3000 is another notable jump up. And that’s with the pre-filtered DVCPRO-HD codec chopping down to 1440; at full native 1920 with AVC-HD it’d likely be yet another notch up. John Bowring and Ian Bates said the 3000 was a visual match for the Sony F23 at 1/4 the price; John said it wiped the floor with the F900R.

Yes, if you pay more you will get more. The difference in noise between the 500 and 2100 was significant, with the 2100 being notably cleaner. Not much if any difference in noise between the 2100 and 3000. All seemed in the same ballpark as far as sensitivity. But in terms of sharpness the 3000 was quite a bit sharper than the 2100, which was quite a bit sharper than the 500.

    Thanks Barry,
But by the 2100 do you mean the 2000,b/c I have the 2000. Also, after your test do you think the 3000 is worth the extra 20k, yes or No? Should I purchase this 3000, will the extra cost be worth it? And finally do you know of any sites I can visit with samples of 1080p footage from the 3000.
    Thanks Barry.

The 2100 is the same as the 2000 but for one minor distinction; it has two filter wheels instead of one. The 2100 is sold in the Asia/Australia/NZ region.

Would I ditch a 2000 for a 3000? Well, it all depends on your priorities. If you value having the absolute crispest/sharpest picture in a video camera, and that is worth a $20,000 upgrade, then yes that’s what you’ll get with the 3000. But you’ll be giving up a bit too, such as 720p mode (the 3000 doesn’t do 720p mode) and thus you’d also lose 720pN mode.

I dunno, it’s all up to you as to whether you think the extra sharpness is worth another $20,000 (plus whatever you’d lose in trade-in value). But the 3000 also supports CAC, which is very nice, and the 2000/2100 doesn’t.

I don’t know of any sites that offer 3000 footage yet.
