Is there a way to NOT USE the FCP Log & Transfer window. I see that there is an option to use File/Import/P2 which I assume is a plugin from Panasonic. I am running FCP Studio 2, QT latest version, Leopard on a MacbookPro 2.4 Intel w/4 Gigs RAM. From what I’ve read it seems that this option is only available in an earlier version of FCP…is this true, am I stuck with the Log & Transfer window? My problem is that the Log & Transfer window does not “see” the clips I am attempting to ingest. It also does this with AVCHD footage from my AG-HSC1U.

I see some workarounds and am in no big hurry as all my projects are SD for the time being, but am looking at purchasing an HVX-200. The clips I am talking about above are from the promotional DVD that Panny put out. I copied the clips to an external hard drive including the lastclip.txt file and kept the file structure. P2 Log can see the clips so I know that the problem is with FCP.

Import Panasonic P2 was what the LOG AND TRANSFER interface was called in FCP 5.0.4 to FCP 5.1.4. Because at that time it was ONLY for importing Panasonic P2 footage. Now the interface is used for importing P2, AVCHD, and soon other formats (AVC Intra, XDCAM). So if you have FCP 6, that is the ONLY option you have. Well, not really, you can also use RAYLIGHT from http://www.dvfilm.com. That enables FCP to read the MXF files natively, without importing or converting.

Yeah, the import function was busted in FCP 6.0.2…sigh.

Thanks for the info Shane. I played with the Raylight demo and that seems to do the trick. So hopefully there will be a fix for this from Apple before I drop the coin on a new HVX200, or I’ll be making a purchase from dvfilm.com.

If you’re going to be using FCP, drop that coin. Raylight shouldn’t even be considered optional, in my opinion! 🙂
