You cannot shoot b&w on a DVX. You can desaturate the color somewhat by using the chroma level scene file setting, but it will still be in color and nowhere near black & white.
In-cam black & white is not possible on a DVX.

Yes, because 1080p is recorded on the HVX carried within a 1080i data stream, and the 1200A supports recording in 1080i.
So whether you record on the P2 card, or on the deck, the recording will be bit-for-bit identical.

You can monitor HD while shooting by using the component outputs.
They’re not active when inputting HD through the firewire though, so you can’t use it as a pass-thru firewire monitoring device.

Yes you can set the camera in 720/24P mode and capture directly in FCP. FCP will strip out the duplicate frames and record 720/24p directly.

You can definitely salvage them, but I don’t know how to do so with FCP. Maybe someone will write in with a procedure that works.
But if nobody does, and you’re stuck, there are a few things you can do. You could copy the MXF video files onto an Avid XPress Pro system, and render out a QT .MOV from there. Avid only needs the video file, it doesn’t need everything else.
Or, you could probably bring it into an Edius system and execute the same workflow.
Or you could use Raylight on the PC and export an uncompressed AVI from the timeline that way.
Hopefully someone will give you a Mac-based, FCP-based solution, but if not, there are at least three ways you can get access to your footage.

You can print an FCP timeline to the camera and record that on the P2 card. But if you’re working in HD, you can’t see it live on the component output at the same time.You could record it on the card and then play it back through the component outputs, but you can’t do a live E-E of firewire input to component output.

With all due respect to the Citidisk people… um… well, I’ll believe it when I see it, and when someone else has been using it for a good three months and reports that it works reliably.
Right now there’s confusion over whether it records DVCPRO-HD at all, or whether it only allows P2 offloading of DVCPRO-HD.
But: if they’re claiming that it can actually capture live DVCPRO-HD, and that it stores it in MXF format, then the only way it can do that is if it creates its own MXF file. The streaming format from the camera is AV/C, not SBP2. The metadata that gets associated with the MXF files on the P2 cards is not transmitted via the firewire when streaming; only the SMPTE-compliant AV/C stream is fed live over the firewire.
