  • FCP Print To Tape to P2 Cards – Component Out to Plasma

My understanding is that it is not yet possible to print a FCP timeline to a p2 card, and then view it by attaching the component out cables from the camera to a HD television.

    Is that correct?

If this correct, is it possible to see HD output from the cam to a HD TV using the component output or is there another way just with the cam?

Why are you trying to do this? Trying to use the camera as a deck? Man, wouldn’t that be nice?

I don’t think it is possible for the camera to read files that are not in the .MXF and other format that you see set up on the card.

Have you tried playing thru the camera via firewire and component to a monitor? I’ll have to ask my producer to loan me a camera for a week again.

We would like to show an occasional 10-15 minute clip to a client.

We are now in a position where we have to transcode to HDV and use a different cam.

With p2 technology and no moving parts, there is less wear and tear than a deck.

But Jan said, I believe in another forum, that the component out overheats the cam, and causes issues even if we could

My clients can preview the HD from the timeline on the Canopus Broadcast NX Desktop. I believe at the present that Canopus is the best workflow for the . I am a previous FCP user but when I purchased the FX1 HDV I purchased Edius NX and then upgraded to Broadcast just before I bought the HVX 200. I believe its the only system at present that can export a project back to the P2 card.
Ther are some cards you can add to your Apple to get the HD out I believe AJA is one.

You can print an FCP timeline to the camera and record that on the P2 card. But if you’re working in HD, you can’t see it live on the component output at the same time.

You could record it on the card and then play it back through the component outputs, but you can’t do a live E-E of firewire input to component output.

How about listing all the steps Barry. I’m having no luck getting the HVX to engage in record mode using PTT in FCP…
