Well, let’s clarify something — it doesn’t matter what format the drives are, because the HVX will RE-FORMAT them.
For that reason, you never want to use a drive that already has stuff on it. You need to use a drive that’s dedicated solely to use for offloading from the HVX.
And when doing so, the HVX formats the drive as FAT32, so it’s compatible with both Mac & Windows systems.

Zoom in 100%. Open the iris up to wide open. Use the Focus Assist (and the EVF DTL) to get precise focus. Then zoom out, stop down, and shoot.
Several people at NAB asked about focus, and I was able to demonstrate over and over that you can get extremely precise focus just with the camera itself, by following that little procedure. I’d execute critical focus by using only the LCD/Focus Assist, and then let them spot-check how well I did by looking at the attached 17″ monitor. Nailed it every time.

Keep an eye on nNovia as well; they’ve apparently talked about having an HVX-compatible HD recording system on the market within a couple of months or so.

5.0.0 supports P2 for standard-def only.
The main upgrade in 5.0.4 was to add DVCPRO-HD high-def P2 support.
If you want to use high-def P2 files on those Macs, they will have to be upgraded to at least 5.0.4, if not 5.1.

The dubbing function lets you downconvert high-def clips into DV and dub those onto the tape drive in DV format. But there’s no provision for dubbing DVCPRO50 over to DV on the DV tape.

Ignore the 24pA thing — that’s for 1080, and you’re working in 720. If you’re using 1080/24 with FCP, you want to be using 24pA, but for 720 there isn’t an option for 24pA.
Perhaps Noah meant “use 720/24P, not 720/24PN”?

Not so sure about the Mac laptop though. I know lots of people have them, and that can work well, but the PC side has two compelling advantages — the P2 Viewer program (a free download), and the forthcoming DVC Rack from Serious Magic. I’ve been beta-testing it and while it’s not quite ready yet (hence “beta”), I already find it indispensable. It’s really quite incredible.
So my eventual plan is to get an MBP with BootCamp and run both.
As far as the P2 Store, I haven’t used it hardly at all, but those who do seem to really like it. It would be a good companion to an MBP because it can act as a pass-thru P2 slot as well.

Hey Jan, that’s not what he was asking. He was asking for DVCPRO-HD at 25fps, not at 25 megabits. Uli’s European, and Apple doesn’t support 720/25p or 720/50p yet.
