I am struggling with the workflow with my Firestore and Final Cut and hope someone on the awesome Cow can help.

I have the camera set in 720/24p….want the cine look. Record to the Firestore. What is the best way to get the footage into FCP and not have to render. My test has been frustrating. I set the FCP (V 5.0.4.) sequence to 720/24. P2 originated footage is no problem. I used the Panasonic Frame Rate Conversion plug-in and it still wants to render the footage. Does FCP V5.1 fix this? Am I being a moron like my ex-wife(s) says? I’ve been editing most of my adult life but this one has me so far. As well, the Firestore has the option to record DV Raw in DVCProHD, what is that? I can find no info in the documentation.

    Many thanks!

check your sequence settings again. It sounds as if there is a mismatch somewhere. Make sure that you are set to DVCPROHD 720p24 and not something else.
Run the 720p24 easy set up THEN create a new Seq and the footage should be seen correctly

Make sure in camera you are set to 24pA.

    Noah,

I haven’t had the camera set in 24pA. Can you explain why it would matter to change to the 24pAdvanced setting. I am trying to learn everything I can about this process. How would the Advanced setting affect the Firestore recording? I’m sure it is some simple thing like that you guys will enlighten me on and all this head-scratching will be over.

    Many thanks,

Ignore the 24pA thing — that’s for 1080, and you’re working in 720. If you’re using 1080/24 with FCP, you want to be using 24pA, but for 720 there isn’t an option for 24pA.

Perhaps Noah meant “use 720/24P, not 720/24PN”?
