If you need your layers and transparencies intact, make sure you import the PSD as a composition. It’s an option in the import dialog that comes up.

Only if you place that stroke on a separate empty layer…

Ha!
Well, the baby is still bugging Ingrid from the inside. The ETA is half october, so it’s best if it stays inside for a little while.
But trust me, as soon as I know more, I’ll write a review for the COW 🙂
You know, system specs, benchmarks, feature overview and all that 😉

Have you actually ever used a touchscreen? They tend to be rather imprecise. And how would you be rotoscoping when your hand obscures the frame you’re trying to work on?
And unless you plan on using a touchscreen TFT that’s flat on your desk, your arm will get tired very quickly.

Well, depending on the setup you have it should be possible. The Multibridge Extreme has 8 digital AES EBU outputs. For 5.1 you need 5 or 6. So it should be possible if your NLE supports the routing.

Unmult was especially written for compositing explosions and other elements shot against black. This is usually your best option. And it’s free.
And it was written by John Knoll…

Then again, whenever you go to DV – no matter whether it’s through AE, or FCP – you’ll get severe chroma subsampling. Color pixellation.
So depending on your source material, recording to DV is always going to be a bit dissapointing. It’s usually not so bad for video/photographic images, but graphics tend to come out terrible on DV.

Currently there’s no gain in OpenGL for rendering.
A fast CPU, loads of fast RAM and fast discs. Roughly in that order.
The next step could be a dual CPU machine, which won’t take al the advantage of the 2nd CPU in AE, but it will speed things up.
And as you’ve guessed, multi-machine rendering can speed up the process significantly. Even with rather ‘cheap’ render nodes, since they don’t even need a sound card, or any serious videocard.

August 22, 2005 at 7:40 am in reply to: Time has come: Problems with DV-Codec Color-SamplingYes, this is why DV sucks as a final output format, especially for graphics. The codec was tuned for photographic (video) images, and is quite relentless in it’s treatment of graphics.
Why are you outputting to DV? If you go straight to DVD for instance, you’ll get much better results. I don’t know what the final purpose of the material is, but I recommend staying clear from the DV codec for final output.
