  • Using a touch screen with after effects

Posted by Sir Hamilton on August 26, 2005 at 6:15 pm

I will soon be buying a PowerMac G5 for use of After Effects and I am very strongly considering buying a touch screen monitor because I can seen alot of potential for speed within after effects. I see it helping greatly for rotoscoping, and navigation.

ALthough I have not tried this, I wonder if it really is practical. any comments and experiences would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

I am not familiar with touch screens,..but considering how very small most of the icons, buttons,..etc..etc…are in AE wouldn’t it be very, very difficult to use?

Well that may be true, but Its not like Id be using my hand, I would use a stylus.
I know of many producers who love using a graphics tablet with after affects, what would make a touchscreen monitor any different? has anybody tried?

Have you actually ever used a touchscreen? They tend to be rather imprecise. And how would you be rotoscoping when your hand obscures the frame you’re trying to work on?

And unless you plan on using a touchscreen TFT that’s flat on your desk, your arm will get tired very quickly.

The original poster is talking about a Wacom Cintiq with stylus, right?

If so, I hear that you can get used to the slight offset between stylus tip and cursor … but for fine work, I might prefer a regular tablet and stylus because I’d be looking at one point, not two (the cursor and pen tip).

    my 2 cents,
    Steve
