Try and keep the number of masks the same then do simple mask animation… won’t that work? You can actually copy and paste the “mask path” parameters from the second mask and have it animate to that shape. For extra masks, just animate it so it becomes so small it gets lost.

As I’m doing it now, I found a bug… one thing that doesn’t change is the “focus distance” on the camera. That has to be adjusted. But it’s still a huge time saver.

  • Trapcode has a plugin called Echospace which does just that: it lets you set repeat motions and distribute layers in any direction. I know you have to pay some money for it but I thought it’s worth a mention. I set up a shot that required hundreds of layers offset in 3D space. So I used Echospace to replicate my layer, than, using the option button while dragging an identically-sized layer to the new copies, I was able to set up a complex animation with ease. Here’s the video I’m talking about: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uga4ei-gfDo You will see the 3D layers about half way through.

I’ve had the same problem in CS5.5 on Mac. I refrain from using dynamic link to AE whenever possible… I see others have this bug, will they fix it soon?

  • Glad to help!

  • Perhaps it’s project related… did you continue an existing project to which you can compare that RAM previews were working fine before the move? If not, open an existing project to which you can compare.

  • I’ll try that!

    Thanks.

Got it! After playing around with it a little longer I figured it out. Thanks.

I’m glad you posted. Don’t be sorry. I just tried it myself, as I’m working on a similar project, but I don’t understand how that worked for you. How can you split this: “transform.yRotation”, when I do, I get an error message. Doesn’t that whole line have to be together, as you’re actually pointing to that layer’s rotation property!?

Could you copy and paste the exact expression you’re using?

I still can’t figure out how to make it rotate in the opposite direction, let alone to duplicate that value!

    Thanks.
