    Hi!

I have the Premium collection (CS 5.5) and been using Dynamic link between Premiere and After Effects quite a lot.
Now all of a sudden it´t doesn’t work! I can do the actual link but no sequenced layers as the imported comp should be, just a long clip, the media files that used to get imported along with the comp is not there either.
Also I sometimes get error messages like:
“You need production premium to use dynamic link”

“couldn’t connect to dynamic link server”

    Edit: Just recieved another error:
“timed out obtaining dynamiclink server connection.”

This really destroys the workflow I’m getting used to…

    What get’s???
    Any ideas?

    Seen it too.

That problem has forced me to have both programs run side by side, it eases importing and the dynamic link responds without stuttering.

Question is – do you have your edit open i PP before opening your AE comp?

I’ve had the same problem in CS5.5 on Mac. I refrain from using dynamic link to AE whenever possible… I see others have this bug, will they fix it soon?

Sorry to hear it’s not just me….

One thing that works though. In AE right click and chose import Premiere Pro project.

This dynamic link thing is quite a new thing to me, the last 10 years I’ve been used to render everything. Usually I prefer to render out everything from AE but in this particular project it would have been noice to have since it’s updated and revised all the time.

Things seem to run better if I use one software at a time, at least I don’t get the error messages…

    My work flow is..

    1. Cut in PrP.
    2. Send desired clip to AE using DL.
    3. Tweak in AE until I like it.
    4. Export from AE (checking Project Link) as a movie
    5. Replace AE DL clip on PrP timeline with movie.
    6. If corrections are needed, use Edit Original to reopen AE project.Project Link allows this to happen.

I’m using CS6. As a work around to get the job out, I found if you restart your system, the revisions you had made in After Effects represent correctly in Premiere.

It’s a great feature when it doesn’t go to the dark side! 🙂

I have found that issues I had with dynamic link in 5.5 arent a problem in 6.0. So if you are anticipating an upgrade , this might motivate you to do so.

All in all, in 6.0 DL is much more robust and reliable.

What I find works is to completely throw out everything in the Cache. I have a cache folder for all my caches and emptying this folder solves the DL errors and blitpipe errors.

AE has ALWAYS had memory screw-up issues. I complain to Adobe all the time.

Here it is a YEAR later (Premiere Pro CC 9014 on a NEW Mac Pro) and Dynamic (Ha!) Linking is still buggier than the Florida Everglades. When will this get fixed properly???

    Kind regards,

    Hello!

Both AE and PP should be open, as mentioned earlier. This solved my problem. It’s my first time to do cross-app workflow. It’s a bit strange back-n-foth thing — from Premier to AE, then final assembly in Premier. When I tried opening just the AE, it was freezing and crashing, then I found this solution.

    Thanks guys!
