The simplest way to do this is to make a matte in Photoshop and make that the top layer of your timeline. It’s only 1 piece and it will matte your entire show.

Buy a mixer and connect both the deck & your Declink and the Mac line out to it. That way you can select exactly what you want to hear when you want, and you won’t have to leave the deck on when you don’t need it.
Behringer mixers are pretty good at the low end, Mackie mixers are excellent in their price range.

Huh?!? That’s not a solution. They’ve asked for a copy of the original files. You’re giving them different files. Tell them to give you a bigger drive. Or buy them a bigger drive & bill them. Either way, it’s less work and faster than transcoding & then copying the new files.

Then you would probably be better off exporting an XML or an EDL. Why fight to make one thing work if something else already works.

Why would you export an AAF if you want to go to FCP? That’s not an FCP format.
FCP prefers Quicktime.

Don’t do this from Final Cut, do this in Compressor. Compressor scales this kind of thing much better than FCP.
Either send your timeline to Compressor, or export a QT movie & open that in Compressor, then you’ll have to modify any of the settings to an image sequence.
In the Frames tab, make the scaling “best”, in the Geometry tab, make the size 1280×720.

I’m quite sure that it’s possible, and I”m quite sure that it works much the same way it did when the HPX-200 came out under FCP 5.x over 3 years ago.
Have you ever used P2 or FCP before? (not trying to be snide, but there’s no indication from you that you have or haven’t.
There are tutorials here on the COW and in other places about how to load P2 into FCP. If you run those, and you lean as much as you can about the camera & FCP as well, you should be fine.
