There’s quite a few ways to create these kind of effects using the built in color correction & tint filters. The manual lists & gives (very) brief overviews of how to use those filters.
If that’s too complicated, several plug-in vendors already have pre-packaged “night vision” and “day to night” filters. Search through the FCP listings on toolfarm.com and pluginz.com to find them.

I use an Epson R-200. There are 2 or 3 other Epson’s that will do this as well. I think that Lexmark & Cannon may also have printers that will print on DVD as well as plain paper.

I have two words for you: Hitachi & Seagate. Maxtor drives aren’t really up to snuff for a lot of video applications.

OK, it’s actually rather easy.
From the head of your timeline, find the 1st affiliate of the master clip in question. Apply the filter(s) & adjust as needed. Copy the clip. Command-F to Find, type in the Master clip name, click the “Find All” button. Every occurrence of that clip will now be highlighted in your timeline. Deselect the 1st occurrence by Command-Clicking on it, then Option-V to Paste Attributes, click the “Filters” checkbox, then the “OK” button. Save your work, then go have a beer, you’ve earned it.

1 1/2 what? Gigabytes? Minutes? Hours? Quarts low?
Aside from that, and aside from the audio mixdown that Thax recommends (excellent advice, BTW), you don’t say what kind of video is coming off what kind of hard drive, formatted in what kind of manner. If the audio mixdown doesn’t help, then I’d be willing to bet that your drives are too slow.

Same here. Everything that’s not already 48kHz gets converted, either in QT or iTunes. Also, doing an audio mixdown (look under the menu: Sequence>Render Only>Mixdown) typically solves this kind of problem.

Renny, remove the 3-way CC filter altogether from that clip. Use the curves in Graeme’s filter to do your cc. If the whites are still too hot, use the Proc Amp filter to bring them down (adjust the Video slider on the Proc Amp). I like to put the proc amp after the Film filter, but try it both ways to see if there’s any difference.

Without seeing the picture, I can only guess. But the most common cause is that there’s fine detail in the picture that’s less than 2 pixels wide on your video output.

Sure! Under the right conditions, a tiny amount of Gaussian blur can actually make a picture look sharper. We’re talking about a blur value of 0.5 to 2. If you don’t like that look, open the picture up in Photoshop, & use the Dust & Scratches filter (under Noise, of all places!) to blur out only the fine details.

Fix #4: The Widescreen filter. I think it’s under Mattes in the Video Effects menu. Adjust the aspect ratio to create black bars at top & bottom as desired.
Fix #5: The 4 Point Garbage Matte- also under Mattes, I believe. Adjust the points of the matte to cut off the top and bottom as desired.
Fix #6 (and one of my favorites!): In a track above the video being matted, add a layer of Slug, or better still a Color Matte (both in the Generators in the Viewer), & then apply a Garbage Matte to that layer & click the “Invert” box in the GM filter. Using a color matte let’s you pick the color of the letterbox (as you can with a GIF, TIFF, etc).Arnie

I do asymmetrical trims like this all the time. But I trim in the timeline, not the trim window. In fact, FCP currently can do everything you mentioned it doesn’t do in regards to trimming, if you simply trim in the timeline & take care to select your tracks properly. Kind of like you need to select them properly in Avid to maintain synch ;-).
