Is there a night-sight (b&w or creepy Gulf War green) effect or filter in FCP? Or can one emmulate the ffect somehow? Or can one even buy it from a third party if need be?

Cutting on a 2.5GHz G5 8Gb RAM, 30in Studio display. Shooting on an HVR-Z1. Losing my mind in London.

There’s quite a few ways to create these kind of effects using the built in color correction & tint filters. The manual lists & gives (very) brief overviews of how to use those filters.

If that’s too complicated, several plug-in vendors already have pre-packaged “night vision” and “day to night” filters. Search through the FCP listings on toolfarm.com and pluginz.com to find them.

There is a free filter that will do just what you discribe. It adds contrast and noise to the video while giving it that characteristic green glow. It’s a free Eureka filter called, oddly enough, Night Vision. I don’t remember just where I found the download but try
Googleing “Eureka Free” or “FCP plugins” or some variation of that, and you should be able to find it.

Check out the night vision filter at https://www.profoundeffects.com/products/camerapov/. It includes the “through the lens” overlay.
