Well, it’s certainly not supposed to do that! Have you reported it as a bug to Apple?
As a workaround, can you apply the shadow in Motion or AE, prior to bringing it into FCP (which is how I prefer to do them, anyway)?

A good point.
FWIW I prefer to look at plugins or other software that has some type of demo version. Even if it makes a big red “X” over the image, I cans still figure out pretty much what it can do.

Let me get this straight. These guys were ‘problematic’ on the previous job, and they still owed you money, & you decided to accept another job from them? Did they, by any chance, offer to sell you a bridge? In Brooklyn, perhaps?
Call a lawyer. Sue. Do not pass GO, do not collect anything short of the $14k plus additional late fees & expenses.
And most important of all, don’t ever accept work from these scam artists again! Or anyone like them, for that matter.

I sometimes wonder if it’s only old, pre-computer, cootes like me that know how to use a search engine (or even that they exist!). So I Googled “lens flare plug in final cut” and got a page full of plugins for sale. Even more interesting, google asked if I really meant to look for “lens flare plugin final cut”, and I got a page full of slightly different results, with a little more variety of vendors near the top.
BTW, I’ve found 2 websites to be particularly helpful when looking for plugins: toolfarm.com & pluginz.com. Both sell a variety of plugins from a variety of vendors.

Well, that’s the whole point of dynamic RT, it’s not supposed to play back smoothly, it’s just supposed to play back.
Dynamic RT is, basically there to let you establish your timing & placement, & then you render to check quality & fine tune your effects & treatment. It saves you the umpteen renderings that you’d have needed to get your timing down when you were using FCP2, but it still needs to be rendered before you can say anything about the look of the show.

You could crop it out with a wide screen matte. Maybe move the top down if you’re worried about cutting off people’s heads.

If you’re using FCP 5, you can use the multiclip feature to do this. It’s covered in the manual.

FCP assumes that you, the editor, may have had some specific reason to decide where the in & out points are, & therefore it respects those I&O points when you speed change a clip. Yes, that makes all the clips to the right of it ripple up or down on the timeline, just like it should. If it didn’t do this, FCP would have to change either the in or out point. Personally, I think that clients are paying me to make those kinds of choices, therefore they deserve to have me make them, not a programer in Cupertino.
If you want to make speed changes w/o rippling the timeline, you can either make speed changes before you edit a clip into the timeline, or you can use “Fit to Fill” to place a clip into a specific sized hole.
