  • Any way to eliminate date stamp from footage?

I’m editing footage for a woman who turned on the date/time stamp for two entire tapes. Right now, I’m just matting a rectangle over the time stamp area of the frame. Any other ideas how to make this a better situation?

Not really. That image is recorded onto the tape.

You can try blurring that area heavily so you can’t read it….but it will still be distracting.

Not much you can do other than re-shoot.

You could crop it out with a wide screen matte. Maybe move the top down if you’re worried about cutting off people’s heads.

This may be a silly question, but is it possible that the date stamp isn’t on the physical tape but rather a setting that can be switched off before capturing?

Not a silly question at all, and I appreciate everyone’s input. It’s only present on two tapes and in no matter what camera/deck we use for capture. So, no dice. I just figured someone else might have run into this problem and might have employed some wonderfully devious matting solution that they could share.

Worst case, you can blow the image up about 10-15%, then wireframe the image so the stamp is out of the frame.

Making a wide-screen matte will probably also help you, too.

Even if that were a possibility, that is only a situtaion that exists when using the analog outputs.
The choice of “character overlay” is virtually always only for the analog output.

If the date (or any overlay) is seen in the FireWire output, its a good bet that its already recorded on the tape.

My favorite story for these threads is the guy who showed me his tape of his kids playing soccer. He asked if I could edit out the people standing in front of him since they blocked the view.

Oh man, I just spit out my coffee. You should really put a warning on a post like that. “Caution, reading this post might cause you uncontrollable laughter and result in your hot coffee spewed all over your nice Powerbook computer.”

That’s absolutely brilliant. I guess the proper reponse would be, “No I can’t, but here’s the number for a small shopt called ILM, give them a call, I think they’ll be able to do what you want… for a fee of course.”

    How’s about this:

Caution: Reading this thread may cause you to spew your hot coffee out your nose.”

Is this getting a little off topic, or will spewing coffee out of my nose in fact help my date stamp problem?

Thank you everyone – this forum rocks!

    cheers,
