[Maria Luisa Gambale] “Is this getting a little off topic, or will spewing coffee out of my nose in fact help my date stamp problem?”

Absolutely. If the spewed coffee lands in the correct area of the screen, it will mask your date stamp. I will cover this in Lesson 4 of my FCP Masks series.

Any of us who have worked at TV stations over the years have been asked to take a completed videotape of a spot made elsewhere and,

“Take off that old phone number and put on this new one.”

The next question is always, “Why can’t you do that?”

The beautiful “black bar” covering the video in that section of the screen was always a testament that the sales department had over-promised what the production staff could “easily” do.

I used to work with someone that would tell the client, “The spot will have to be re-edited because the video is chocolate milk now. It would be like trying to get the chocolate out of the milk.”

Oddly enough, the clients were able to wrap their heads around that one.

    Loved it,
