What makes you think they’ll be released in 6 months? The only word from Apple was that Powermacs would go Intel sometime in ’07. To be fair, the iMac & “MacBook” came out 6 months ahead of schedule, so who knows? It could be 6 months, or 8, or 12, or 3.

Use the preset for DV anamorphic 16X9. The resolution is 720X480, with anamorphic pixels.

dropped frames are always caused by your hard drives being too slow to handle the task you’re throwing at them. What kind of drives are you using? How are they formatted?

How are you releasing the film? US TV? Euro TV? Theatrical? first answer that question, then convert everything to the format that’s most conducive to releasing it that way.

It’s not you, It’s Compressor 2 (rhyme unintentional). 2-Pass seems to be broken, but CBR still works fine. And with only 1 hour of video on your disk, that shouldn’t be an issue for this particular project.
If you regularly need to do DVD projects with more than 90 minutes of video, you might want to invest in a 3rd party encoder. I bought MegaPeg HD, & haven’t looked back. Now I only use compressor when there’s 90 minutes of footage or less in a project.

Actually, my ATA card has 2 ports, not 4. But each port (or channel) supports 2 drives, so the card supports 4 drives.

There are 4 port ATA cards. I have one in my old G4, System profiler says it’s an Acard 6280M.
If I recall, these 4 port cards are made by Sonnet, Acard, Siig, & maybe a few others. If you look hard enough, you may even be able to find one that supports some hardware RAID features. Just make sure that the card is specifically for Mac, the Windows ones will not work!

I think your drives are too full & too slow. What kind of video are you working with? If you’re working with uncompressed, then you’re pushing the limit by using Firewire 800 drives. Also, the drives are around 85~90% full.

All G5s have USB ports. Your keyboard is plugged into one (unless you have a bluetooth keyboard, of course).
OTOH, USB is not a particularly good way to capture video. The bandwidth of USB 1.1 is very low, & even USB 2 isn’t really a good way to capture video.
You should get a firewire device for capture. There are many on the market. If you go to apple.com & search on the FCP support pages you’ll find a pdf of approved capture devices.

Slot loading players like those on some compact desktops or laptops can be jammed by both the card disks & the mini disks. I’d stay with a full size disk.
For added ‘umph’ (oomph?), you could place it in an Amaray style DVD case with the same sort of packaging that they’d receive as their own wedding DVD.
